If your house flooded this past August, would you hang a picture of your flooded house?

If you had snapped a pic of your house under 5+ feet of water from the outside, either during evac or going back to salvage, would you hang it up once you restored your house?

I personally think it would serve as a conversation piece, but I could see where someone wouldn't want those memories staring them in the face.

What are your thoughts?

I wouldn't look at it as a terrible memory staring back at me in the face. If you are in fact standing in that very same living post restoration, I would think a nice sense of gratitude and appreciation would come over you every time you glanced at it. It could serve as a humbling reminder to be thankful for where you are right now.

yeah, i guess it could be a way to show where you were and how far you've come since then. Conversations starter for sure.

A picture of the actual devastation? Or a picture of it before Katrina?

Is it a good picture? If it's a high quality picture, sure. I wouldn't post an iPhone photo though.

It actually is a good picture, from the street looking at the front of the house under 5+ feet of water at the time, only the second story showing.

Considering that our society has museums and memorials for huge disasters, it's not unreasonable for someone to keep pictures of their flooded house.

I actually think that's a pretty good idea. Maybe in a more inconspicuous place, but I like the idea.

The wife and I were looking over pictures of the demolition in those first few weeks and it brought back to me the ever-enduring smell as if it were just in the next room.

No. I don't need constant reminders to remember that time. From waking up at 4:30am to see my yard 2/3 under water to having to leave in the back of a National Guard deuce-and-a-half to walking down the interstate with my wife and dog while pushing a Target buggy filled with the few clothes and important papers we could grab on our mad dash out, the events of that day are already firmly etched in my mind.

It's the house before.

Sorry, I didn't really catch the point that it was a picture of the house in ruin. Coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

I actually thought about framing side by side pictures for them. However my mom is way too sensitive for that.

Don't think I'd want a constant reminder, considering history is likely to repeat itself eventually.

I guess if you went through a traumatic experience, then that reminder would probably be a bad idea. But this is a situation where no evac was necessary.

yeah, it's not for everyone. i probably would do it. But, i can see why some people might. we didn't live in our house after katrina so, hanging a pic of that in our current house wouldn't make since.

I think a picture from the exact same perspective post restoration hanging right next to it would be a pretty nice touch.
