Everyone is so full of shite with school rankings.
Most of the public schools in The DFW burbs rival and surpass many of the public and private schools in Louisiana.
Quailty of life is subjective, school rankings and quality of education are not.

School rankings are largely a byproduct of the students that attend. If a child has an aptitude for something its not going to matter where they go

Laffy. I'm moving there this summer. Everywhere else is unappealing to me

Get out of here with that perfectly logical statement

So lots of kids in Louisiana have poor aptitude, got it.

Yeah that's a bunch of crap right there. If I wouldn't have been able to attend a magnet public HS I would have had to go to Glen Oaks or Istrouma High in BR, cause no way could my parents afford private nor move. Instead of being in classrooms full of other students like me...that actually wanted to learn...I would have been stuck in classrooms where teachers are too busy trying to control their students behavior than actually be able to teach.
I mean yeah...you have enough drive you can learn in any situation. But obviously the quality of the education is going to be better in the school with like minded students that all want to learn.

Yes. This isnt a secret. I imagine if you go to Mcallen or Brownsville you would find similar

Do you read what you type? You contradict yourself in back to back sentences.

Texas has as much, if not more culture than LA will ever have: music, cowboys/indians/mexicans, bbq, chili, rodeo, professional sports franchises (plural), music, CLEAN WATER LAKES & RIVERS, & more
WUT? LA has all of this, plus the other stuff you mentioned(mardi gras Cajun et al) and what it is doesn't have is the shitty "everything is better in Texas culture". for example you thinking that those are specific to texas.
Just look at the two "mottos" of the states.
Texas- everything is bigger in texas
LA- sportmans paradise, let the good times roll(in frech because cultcha)

Yes, many of the buildings are cookie cutter-but guess what? So were all of the old buildings you love in LA that are now run down, filled with nasty tile & asbestos
I don't love any of those buildings, nor do I know where they are, I like the houses around highland, perkins, southdowns, Spanish town, and the garden district, also older neighbor hoods off of Jefferson. I even like bocage and Uclub but not really. Plus I suggested living out of the city on a good bit of land, not in a neighborhood.

People that boast LA culture are the same people that vacation 1 week a year in Destin, FL & think it's the greatest.
haha now this I cant disagree with, I have traveled a good bit and been to plenty of beaches in Europe and I can say that I love destin beaches. they truly are some of the best beaches in the world. White sands and Warm waters. Cant really get that anywhere else and being 4 hours away it would be dumb to not go at least once. That's why we go to the beach one week and the take another vacation somewhere else.
Look texas is doing a lot of shite right and LA is doing a lot more wrong. I don't hate texas I just couldn't enjoy living there( maybe Austin ill be going in a few months to see). But honestly what this discussion made me realize is that LA is being greatly held back by its minority population while texas isn't. That's probably my only complaint about LA. And its truly pathetic you get labeled a racist for pointing out the obvious. But something needs to be done.

To the AtlantaLSU guy, where in La. did you move back to?
Where all in La. have you been? Lake Charles? Monroe? Alexandria? Frankly I find it interesting that nobody (unless I missed it) has mentioned any of those places. Just curious where your points of reference are.

No I didn't.
I could have still gotten enough of an education to graduate if I went to the Istrouma or Glen Oaks. However...it would paled in comparison to the amount AND quality of education I got by going to a magnet school. Having access to teachers that can actually teach me and answer my questions...instead of spending half their time disciplining kids that don't give a shite about school is key. Teachers that actually challenged how you thought and didn't just give you the easiest homework/assignments so that you could pass.
Name one public HS in Baton Rouge (besides Baton Rouge High...which is the only true magnet left and gonna be much more difficult for kids to get into now) that is able to provide a quality environment for kids to actually learn. That isn't plaqued by students with severe behavioral issues, drugs, and violence.

If you're an OT baller the answer is NOLA.
If you're not quite an OT baller the answer is Covington/Mandeville.

There is literally no city in Louisiana that I haven't been to. Zwolle? Marion? Been there worked the town. I use to travel the world and the country, now I focus more on the state.
Baton Rouge is my home.

mandeville and areas around mandeville.

You realize there's an entire state outside of BR, right?
I went to public HS in an area that most people consider one of the dumber parts of the state. At last count, in my small group of friends I graduated with 3 doctors, 3 attorneys, 2 CPA's and several engineers. I have an accounting degree and MBA. People with the aptitude and ability will succeed in any situation. Conversely, I know a bunch of people from private schools who are now burn-outs

I see what you're saying but there is a lot of trash, horrible infrastructure as mentioned in LA. As a friend told me one time... 'Texans seem to have a lot of pride from being in Texas." I would say there are plenty of people from LA who have just as much pride and maybe it doesn't come across as arrogance, etc. Granted, I don't know what everyone thinks but it seems I see a lot more people bash Louisiana than bash Texas - and maybe that's where some pride comes from.
To each his own

And you realize the situation I was discussing was specifically THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SITUATION IN BR. Since the other poster LIVES IN BR and my friend that is moving away also LIVES IN BR.
Anyone from BR knows just how bad the public school situation is here. You basically have no option but to send your kids to private or move just outside of BR to send your kids to a non EBR parish school.

Thank you. Its 30% student, 60% parenting and 10% school. All these people in BR screaming their "chirren" need better teachers and nicer schools couldn't be more wrong. they need better parents.
