I'm hoping to have $5-6 million liquid when I retire at 65.
I'd retire tomorrow at 42 if I had $5 million. I could live comfortably off of 3% interest on that much money. My health insurance costs would go way up but I'm assuming that I'd have no mortgage either.

Spread it out across a bed and take seductive pictures on top of it

Yep, I don't spend a lot on consumer goods. I'd be more than fine.

Roger, I could easily live off of 3% interest on that money with a family and not even touch the principal. I'm not particularly high maintenance though. I don't really care about expensive houses, cars, vacations etc.

Same here, I don't need to spend a lot to enjoy life. I need time more time rather than more money.

I’d likely invest it all and maybe keep $10K for a vacation. If I suddenly came upon a lump sum of money, it doesn’t really change anything in my daily life unless we get into the many multi millions.

Off the top:
$200k to pay off my lady's medical school debt.
$200k-$300k in various investment vehicles.
After that's taken care of:
$300k-$400k in a nice house.
$100k for freelance spending on vacations, dining, etc.

quote:Once, in the 80's, my guy fronted me a quarter ounce. When payday rolled around I had used all of my money to pay other bills. He wanted me to fly to San Francisco, pick up his next kilo, and drive a car back to Texas with it in lieu of paying him. He said I would need to keep it on me the whole trip. He was also going to give me $1000 cash upon delivery.
I’d call my dealer first thing
I told him I was worried I'd die in a motel room on the way back.
Maybe I could be just now be getting out of jail with a NY Times Bestselling novel entitled "How I Became a Mule" ready for printing, and a movie deal.
Did I mess up by not doing that?

400k on a house
300k to invest
300k as a down payment on my own land or to get into a equity hunting camp that doesn’t flood its arse off every year
100k to frick off

Sell my current house. Buy some land and build a new home. Invest everything else.
