Just seems like an ignorant mindset.
How's it ignorant? I have $X in disposable income. I have things I'd rather do than travel and if I'm going to travel I have places I'm more interested in visiting than NYC. Just a matter of personal preference.

No I'm not miserable. Let me elaborate I only was able to go to the city for one day while I was on pass earlier this summer while I was working at USMA. I went to a mets game and went to Times Square. I thought that all the people in the restaurants and people that worked in the stores were rude. It also didn't help that I had an incompetent platoon leader. Maybe ill go there again and actually visit West Point

I personally hate big cities. I've been a couple of times. Last time I had to get a union electrician to plug in a light for $200. Seriously. They unplugged the light on our trade booth and sent a union guy back to plug it back in. frick that shite.

Exactly the opposite I have found in my times there. I love NYC and the people.

NYC is going to be a shock to social conservatives
How big of a shock can it really be? Even in the South, the major cities have places like Bourbon Street.

they don't go the bourbon street either

You'd have to be a vapid loon of the most shallow order to truly believe New York is the best place in America to live or visit.

It's a cool place to spend a week or two but I could never live there. I too find the people either very cool or rude as hell. Everyone has an attitude. I've crossed it off the list of places to see, and moved on. Certainly think everyone should see it once though.

It annoys the hell out of me when people bring up politics in everything
In discussions about places to live in and the OP has talked about living there, this is absolutely a valid concern and one that needs to be brought up. All politics is local and the local gov't can really frick with you more than the Feds or the state can.

I thought they were very friendly. And they loved our cajun accents.

Understandable. Some things are fun once for some people. Others go back again and again.

I've been once. Enjoyed it, people were cool, food was the tits, wish I could have seen and done more

I'd be hard pressed to think of a culinary center in the us that can rival NYC.
Are the best restaurants there better than the best restaurants in other cities? Or is there just the sheer number of restaurants, and that guarantees there will be a lot of great ones?

I was referring to the "I can find everything it has somewhere else" statement that you seemed to be agreeing with. I have no problem if it's not your thing per se.

Maybe that explains it. A major sporting venue and Times Square. Fwiw, my wife, who is from here, went to one LSU game and is convinced that people in Louisiana are all rude drunks because of it. Also, it's highly likely that you had more interaction with non-New Yorkers in Times Square than actual New Yorkers.
That makes sense. It's like going to Bourbon Street and thinking that's what people from New Orleans are like

Agreed, it's all about opinions. Personally, I love the city. For me, it's one of the greatest cities in the US.

I wouldn't mind trying to go again. Big crowds in general make me uneasy now regardless if its atl, NYC, Vegas, Philly, etc. I've been to all those places. My afghani interpreter thought Kabul was one of the greatest cities in the world.

They have like 50 that would be top 5 everywhere except maybe San Fran or Chicago. And that is pushing it.
Plus, the ethnic food scene is incredible. The best of the world is available in Queens.
