I wonder if this guy should have made more noise when the bear was further away. From my experience, if you make even a little bit of noise black bears usually take off in the opposite direction. Here, I think the guy startled the bear, which is probably why it charged. Nevertheless, he did a solid job of standing his ground and is probably in better shape because of it. Awesome video!

Running would probably have gotten him killed. Most charges are bluff charges. Standing your ground is the correct thing to do.

Oh I know about adrenaline and trees firsthand. Once was presented the choice: shoot charging Brahma bull in head with .22 or climb tree? Let's see, granddad's friend owns the bull and I am squirrel hunting with his permission, also .22 may just bounce and piss off said bull....tree it is!
