If you enjoyed the Atchafalaya Bridge video, here's a vintage one on roads in marshes.

Another video in that series, unfortunately the last one they uploaded. The narrator audio is kinda bad so you'll have to adjust to understand him. This video is probably from the 1970s like the other one.
Shows how the DOTD literally built stable roads in the middle of marshes, blasting sand like a hose, routing mud through pipes, and other stuff that went over my head.
The Calcasieu River Bridge makes a brief appearance, probably before it began deteriorating.
Again, amazed how fast they built stuff then, but can't do it now. Because of environment impact studies, bloated state government, and so much more.

Does anyone have one for the construction of the St Louis arch? I haven't looked it up yet, but from the first time I saw that I have always wondered how it was built.

Pretty cool video, The old Houma bridges over the intracoastal at the 2 min mark. I probably spent a week of my life waiting on them.

Here you go.
That video was uploaded a year and a half ago and had 1,600 views, now it’s over 6,000. Either we have a lot of lurkers and/or it got shared by some baws here. Glad it got exposure though, it really sets perspective on how shite infrastructure construction and maintenance is today.

Thanks though, that's exactly what I was looking for. It's not exactly what I thought either. I was surprised by how high up they got before they put that brace between... Some of those heights and lack of harnesses are scary to imagine, though I've been at/in some ridiculous places too, without protection. Never been quite that high though...granted, once you pass a certain point to where the fall will kill you, any additional foot doesn't really matter.

If you think these 1970’s DOTD films are an amazing look back at the world before going wacko, I recently came across a 1970’s film produced by Tennaco called The Delicate Balance.
It was on 16 mm film and 3/4 tape. That was a good look back at how the some in the oil industry actually cared about the wetlands and did what they could to protect what was out there.
It was the start of the mitigation bank idea that would allow companies to develop wetlands of oil and gas exploration while protecting the environment. Lots of nice artsy wetland shots of Terrebonne marshes around Lake De cade. They even showed how they built a spoil bank around the lake to keep the salt water out.
Tennaco was looking to keep the tax deductions coming as they were doing work in the marsh for restoration.
I wish it was on YouTube to share.
