Having done two tours at Norfolk, I kind of like the VA Beach area. Maybe that. Or maybe the Charleston, SC, area. I'm not a huge city fan, though. I also liked Pensacola when we did a tour there, too. I can't just lock it down to one place, though.

I live just outside of Savannah now and it really isn't bad - great schools and LOW taxes.

I can confirm just the opposite. Shitty scenery, shitty people and shitty weather does not make for a great quality of life.

I did Nashville a few times in 2016 and was surprised each time that it wasn't as awesome as I was expecting.

Dallas? Awesome? It's a giant stripmall devoid of any real identity. Nothing about Dallas is unique. It's a great place to make a living, but it isn't scenic, the weather is blah, and you're really far away from the mountains and beach.

I could live there and make it work, but having the opportunity to "live anywhere in the US", I certainly wouldn't be choosing Dallas.

ETA: Also, Fort Worth > Dallas

Some of the beach towns down the CA coast are really nice as well.

I love it, but can't afford it. So I drive over and visit it 2-3 times a year.

Somewhere in the Rockies, probably Utah. Secondly, one of the middle Keys.

To two posts on the last two pages:

(1) Why is Charleston overrated?
(2) Why do people in Dallas suck?

Absolutely. You can even throw San Marcos in there (although that really is just an Austin suburb).
