western NC - north of boone - on Tn border - near VA line - at elevation - 3000Ft or more - people great

North Carolina (no idea where but not Charlotte).
I live "downeast" (east of I 95) in a mid-size town and this is a fine place to live but generally speaking these counties have agriculture based economies with high poverty rates and mediocre public schools. The plus side is the cost of living is relatively low. Lot of people live here and commute to Raleigh for work; it's about an hour drive. Most of the downeast towns have good private schools.
