Imagine the nightmare of trying to embark that many men and their equipment.

Just a random guess tells me that the Russians might even take a crack at those convoys while they are crossing the Atlantic too. That pulls how many air assets away from Europe so they can fly cover over them, as well as anti-sub stuff? It would not be good.

But why would they invade?

If their economy keeps going in the shitter while all the resources go to the military, I would guess hunger.

Russia borders the Baltics. The US is thousands of miles away. I fail to see how this is a surprise.

Could Russia stop the US from taking Mexico or Cuba?

I was wondering the same thing. Why does this shock anyone?

And why did we invite all these shite ex-Warsaw Pact countries into NATO in the first place? They bring a lot of risk and little reward.

They'd go after the convoys for sure. For the most part I think we'd be able to protect the convoys, though they'd be losses for sure. But even more than this, the Russians would almost certainly go after the major port facilities throughout Western Europe. Places like Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, and Amsterdam would be hammered. This would make disembarking our forces an even bigger nightmare.

They provided no benefit, yet we took them in anyway. Sounds like an answer to a question earlier in this thread.

Anybody want to guess how many NATO countries actually live up to their end of the bargain and spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense?

It's like 3. The US, Turkey and fricking Greece of all people. Maybe Great Britain but if they do its just by the skin of their teeth. NATO sucks balls. I really don't give a shite if Russia takes that place over. More power to them I say.

Agree. Bringing these ex-Warsaw Pact countries into NATO was one of the biggest foreign policy mistakes of the post cold War era.

Its one of the reasons Russia is acting so belligerent. They feel threatened by NATO countries right on their border.

I believe Denmark holds up its end of the NATO bargain, as well

We should have disbanded NATO when the wall came down and peaced out. Europe would have had to rearm, but they would be in better shape now and we would too. Also, all their socialist utopian cakewalks would have already fallen apart.

But at the same time they're seeing from a military strength standpoint, NATO is woefully weak. That's a dangerous combination.

They probably still feel that there's some unfinished business in Germany too.

Neither trusts the other farther then they could throw them. That's for sure. The difference is one is ready for a fight while the other isn't.

Do you think the Germans would conscript all their new military age male citizens? Russia could be fighting Syrians on multiple fronts.

Lol if you think the German military hasn't been quietly regaining momentum. I think the Russians would stall on that ol' Seelow Heights area. Then Finland would counter-stroke through St.Petersburg.

Germany, Israel and Japan are War Dogs held on tight leashes by the US. That's why I don't worry about Russia or China or Iran.

Well, if they're not willing to fight for their own home country against a poorly trained glorified militia with no Air Force to speak of, I seriously doubt they be willing to defend Germany against one of the strongest and best equipped armies in the world backed up by a modern Air Force.
