If new technology in contact tracing showed exactly whom you caught the common cold from..

.. would our society develop into one where the person you caught it from had to pay a portion of your medical bills?
Like the invention of paternity testing.... If in the next 10 years whenever you caught the cold or the flu they could say "genetic markers on the virus show us that you caught this from a co-worker".... Would we legislate that the coworker in question had to pay your medical bills?

Well they do that with AIDS so there is precedent to file criminal charges on someone who willingly gave the illness to somebody without disclosure.
so just to be logically consistent with everything else that we demand in our society.
1. If we can tell the kid is yours you got to pay
2. If we can tell that you got somebody sick you got to pay
3. If we can tell that you distracted a driver and they got in an accident, you got to pay.

Pretty easily actually. We know that you bought some cold medicine on Amazon using Google pay on Tuesday, and exposure on Thursday, so you knew you were at ill.
We can also see your search history about cold symptoms. Your phone shows us an elevated baseline heart rate which is consistent with a fever.
Just like a drunk driver who got behind the wheel knowing that they were intoxicated.
All the metrics to determine if you're sick or not are already in place, We just need the contract tracing to prove who you gave it to.
Now technically they could have gotten sick from somebody else even though contract tracing shows you were next to them while you were sick, so we still need developments in virus mutation with genetic markers to prove that you got that person sick

Say it's raining outside, people are dragging their umbrellas into Albertsons.
The floor near the entrance is wet, a 20-year-old and a 90-year-old walk in.
1. The 20-year-old steps on the floor and slips ever so slightly but it's able to catch his balance, and continues into the store and shops.
2. The 90-year-old steps on the floor flies head over heels breaks both hips knees arms crush skull and everything.
Does Albertsons get off by saying "the reason that 90 year old had so much in damages cuz the f****** is 90 years old should have died 20 years earlier. It has nothing to do with our negligence of keeping the entryway dry during a rainstorm. It has to do with the guy being frail as f***"
