Old enough to remember things before you millennialls started acting like you gave a shite about sunk boats before Celine Dion made a song about it.

I'm certainly old enough to remember time before 1997, and yes, the Titanic sinking was definitely a widely known story. Easily up there with the Lincoln assassination, World War I, etc. levels of known stories.

But, none of knew about Jack Dawson prior to the movie.

Which is exactly why you don't have a stupid amount of money

Well doesn't make any sense.

Plenty of rich people buy stuff like this and remain rich.

Well you must have been young, because the nineties were all about "must see TV" and not giving two fricks about sunk boats.

Poor people certainly aren't going to buy this.

I, too, wouldn't mind possessing some type of authentic artifact from the ship. How much do you think like a knife or fork would cost?

Speaking of The Titanic, I read recently (don't remember source/can't confirm) a "Fact" I was never previously aware of:

Apparently, the crewman who was to be the "lookout/ man the Crow's Nest" was switched out with another employee literally just before leaving port. In the rush to swap out, the original lookout forgot to remove the key to the locker in the crow's nest from his neck before disembarking. His replacement was therefore unable to retrieve the binocs from the locker the entire cruise...which directly contributed not only to not seeing the berg in time, but also poor visibility of it's massive water-line width until they were right upon it, powerless to avoid catastrophe having committed to the turn. Those precious extra seconds/ info not could but would have impressed upon the experienced captain that there was no way to avoid damaging the expensive ship, and the head-on collision with full reverse engines would have been the call without hesitation.

Anyone else heard this? True? BS?

It's not that we couldn't, we just didn't want to cause nobody gave a shite. We were busy doing Reaganomics and cocaine. Glorious days.

Yeah it seems that way to you because you're probably too young to remember before 1997. But way back then, we didn't give a frick about the Titanic.

Hell, prior to 1910 nobody had even heard of the Titanic, let alone it sinking.
