Just in case anyone was wondering what all of this was about... The bricks are there because they removed the name of the memorial with the metal statue.

Like every other aspect of this local government and its supporters, it isn't their problem.
They took care of some random meaningless thing and then on to the next cause. Nothing has changed, no real issues were addressed, nothing is fixed, and everything is someone else's fault.

The current state of what remains of the statue is such a perfect microcosm of what a fricking train wreck this city is.
Let's waste a ton of money, time, and resources taking down a beautiful (it was a very attractive piece of art regardless of subject matter) 100 year old statue in a very prominent place, and in its place leave a destroyed hunk of granite and bricks.
