The people we were going to use provided us with a copy of their workman's comp insurance. I called the company who said: That policy isn't valid That page has been altered We last insured them fifteen years ago. Louisiana workmsn's Comp is a mess, but we know now that that company is providing falsified certificates.

Had this happen to me as well. Company gave me a picture of their state license. Which I called the state office and confirmed had been expired 5 years

You don’t even have to call anyone. You can verify someone’s Workers Comp insurance instantly online. I think it’s LAWorks? It’s been a while since my first job auditing insurance policies, but there is a site you can verify to the date of when someone is covered or not.

Tree removal is just expensive. Bitching about the price doesn’t change the fact that it takes experience, knowledge, and quite a few pieces of very expensive equipment.

Seems like something to verify before Randall puts his equipment through your roof.

I asked an A/C contractor in Baton Rouge for proof of insurance before they came out. The lady on the phone told me that she had never been asked that in her decades of business and that she didn’t really want to work for someone that would question her on that point. I seriously doubt most people check insurance or verify certification and contractor’s licenses.

I would think it’s more common for tree cutting companies than HVAC contractors. The work that tree removal companies do is much more dangerous and more likely to cause property damage. Tree removal companies also tend to be (from what I’ve seen) small individually-owned LLC’s that travel around the state looking for work, so you don’t have the same local word-of-mouth reputation that you have with HVAC.

I’ve never felt the need to verify my AC guys because they’ve been in business for 20+ years and have a long history of residential and commercial work in my area. By the time I actually hired them for an AC replacement, they had already been doing service work at my house for like 5 years.

But when I hired a mom & pop company out of Lafayette to take down a tree in my back yard, I made sure to verify their arborist license and insurance. The guys turned out to be legit (and they did a great job) but I wasn’t letting them haul tree limbs over my house with a crane until I was sure.

Laura seems annoying

Anybody who uses FB to put people on blast is annoying

She probably likes the attention and has probably set up a go fund me
