I would pay serious dollars if an AC person comes to my house and fixes the sock smell

My house is brand new and clean. Once the AC kicks on after not being on for a while the smell is horrible. Straight mildew smell. It happened last year so I installed a UV light. Doesn’t help. Still smells. Nothing is on the new coils that’s visible and we don’t have pets. Anyone have any advice?

DSLD? I have the same damn issue and just moved in few weeks ago. Already had coils cleaned and no luck.

Happens often between heat / AC cycles during the winter.

What if I told you there was a way to get rid of your sense of smell?

Mold/mildew is growing somewhere in the system. Take off any inspection panels you can and look/sniff around

Man I’ve had AC people come out and they never find a thing

This would legit make me lose my mind. I hate smells. They would be replacing the entire AC and I don't care what it costs.

Have you tried scheduling the fan to run periodically?

Oh trust me, I’ve offered plenty of AC companies to fix the problem and no cost is too high - they all just say let it run for a while straight and just let it air out. And of course that works after a day but who wants this sick smell for 5 minutes in their whole house let alone a day or two?

So when the “fan” is on, no smell. Heater on, no smell. Just when the cold air AC kicks on is when the smell comes

You need to pour bleach into the pvc pipe near the unit in your attic. It’s a common problem with a really easy fix.

This exact thing happened to a buddy of mine in his new house. Apparently there is a spray foe your coils that will take care of it. Your AC guy can help but then you can do it yourself if it ever comes back.

Dude. You’re ocd and overreacting. Everyone’s house does this and it airs out in 15 mins. Stop exaggerating.
