You don't need a costume to scare children

My dad always loved Halloween when I was a kid.

He rigged up this speaker box he hid in a drainage ditch to our house with hidden wires. Would play a cassette tape(this was the 80s) of creepy music(think theme music from the Halloween movies, etc) to make it sound like it was coming from under the drainage grate.

Dressed up as a grim reaper or wore a Jason mask and hid in this huge bush in our yard and would jump out and scare all the kids that came up to the house to get candy.

What's crazy was that was in NBR in the 80s. Our neighborhood wasn't THAT bad back then. We would go trick or treating all over that area and feel completely safe. I mean...obviously the poorer part of town, but not like drug deals and drivebys going on.

I would imagine it's quite different now. I don't even dare drive by my old neighborhood now whenever I visit BR.

I grew up in Shenandoah in the late 80's and 90's. Your story reminds me of most houses in there doing the same type of shenanigans for Halloween. Good times!

When we were kids leaf blowers were just coming out. My buddies dad had one. My buddies dad would ask the kids, "have yall seen that man with the chainsaw running around here cutting up kids" They'd say no, then he would signal us to start the leaf blower and chase them with it. We had good fun with that prank, not sure you could get away with that today.
