sure, but at what cost?
to go back to OP, the entire policy was to use these extreme mitigation for one goal: keeping hospitals from being overrun
why is the narrative behind the policy changing? what hospital system is being overrun, necessitating these extreme mitigation measures?
elimination was never the goal.
hell, there isn't really a new stated goal since the original one (acute hospital capacity issues) mysteriously disappeared
we are going to extend this whole pandemic exponentially longer by suppressing the curve further than is needed

That's how models and science work. However the models work with the best evidence at the time.
Anyone still using this bullshite to defend those models calling for millions of people to die, the people that created them, and/or the people that have/are using them to make decisions isn’t worth taking seriously.

I see your point (even with the typos), but the government has done so in the past in times of national emergencies. The government now is far less draconian than they were during the 1919 Flu epidemic.

Sure. We locked Japanese and Aleutians in concentration camps. The very average American supported that too.

Or someone who started paying attention to this in December, ensured he had an emergency fund and stockpile food and necessary items like their was a hurricane coming. In short a person who was no grasshopper. A person who actually believes in personal accountibility in himself and not just for others.
No one can sit here and claim that there was not any evidence that thing was coming and that there would not be dire consequences

Because this is nothing but a political power grab.

Boy that was a waste of time

And the danger is a second wave coming when we'll also have to contend with the seasonal flu in the winter
If we don't allow more spread now then to be certain things will be much worse then

There’s a huge segment of America where that’s not possible. Not everyone has middle class or above incomes. I’m sorry but shutting down the economy immediately puts a huge segment of America in dire financial situations.

exactly
it's crazy that to even think this around certain people gets a viscous response

You are right. Elimination was the goal. Not overwhelming police, EMS, and other critical services was and still is.

you dropped a "science" reference earlier
"science" also works to correct bad modeling and projections. our initial modeling was very bad and this thread is based off the realization that the initial modeling was bad. our critical services weren't overwhelmed except maybe in 2 areas (NYC and Nola) and neither "Broke"
so why are we maintaining this level of measure when it's clearly beyond what is necessary?

lame government job
So we are reduced to insulting people that get up and go to work everyday. BTW my last government job was the 20 years I spent in the Army.

You left out the emergency fund for some reason. Definitely not a waste of time.
Posted on 5/3/20 at 7:52 pm to RogerTheShrubber
Let's keep this to pandemics. During the 1919 Flu pandemic people were arrested for not wearing masks. That's not going on today.

You could simply have said "Yes, I still have my job."
But those of you advocating continuing the shutdown always do.
ETA: Oh, and it appears you have your Army retirement to lean on as well.
Figures.

Well because you should always have that. No reason to start saving in December

Yes, there are many people who are suffering financially. But there have been many people advocating for a much broader and expansive social safety net for years. They have been branded -rightly in some cases- as socialists and wealth redistributors. But many of their measure would have been cheaper and more beneficial than this 2-4 trillion dollars stimulus which will just lead to inflation and higher taxes.
Posted on 5/3/20 at 7:58 pm to Lickitty Split
They have had shite data. Remember the, we are two weeks behind Italy! No no we weren't.
They also didn't factor in the daily accidents and overall Bs people go to the hospital for would be reduced drastically.

They're not suffering from a down market.
They're suffering from the government using its power to literally shut down the economy.

Or, you know, we could have just avoided the 2-4 trillion taxpayer waste and not shut down the economy?
