Many restaurants, bars, theaters were closed. Are you saying all these places should have been kept open?

Yes. No doubt about it.

I put myself in a position where I would not be affected by an economic downturn. And it required hard work, discipline, perseverance and sacrifice. These things seem to be in short supply suddenly.
The only reason you aren't affected is because you're a government employee
There are very few professions that are insulated from the impact of this
And to think that you aren't impacted is also severely stupid. If you own your own home it is possible that the value of that property could sharply decrease. If you have retirement funds it's possible that the value of those accounts could sharply decrease.
The longer these shut downs go on the more people are affected. Including you. Unless you're a renter then you might actually benefit.

Who would have gone to these places and what about attached liability for being open?
I had several employees who were rightfully concerned about the virus and their inability to social distance while at work? Should I have dismissed their concerns and told them to either come in or else?

Not until they were forced to

Absolutely

I am not a government employee. I run my own business. I did use my GI Bill benefits to get my degree, but that was in the contract I was offered. I upheld my end and the government did as well.

If I or someone in my family die from this then it renders the chance of any financial loss moot, doesn't it. People make the mistake of assuming that this only happens to other people. Nothing bad will ever happen to them. That is being short sighted.

For entertainment purposes I’d love to know what business you’re in

People die of all sorts of things
This won't be anywhere near the leading cause of death once we get the annual numbers in
And the shut down will inevitably cause deaths which also need to be taken into account

I’m hesitant to believe these experts. They all seem to have some agenda in wanting a recession.
The flatting the curve was bullshite that no one should have fallen for but here we are and we did.
Now the nazis don’t want anyone out of their houses

Even after we've clearly flattened the curve to point where we've underwhelmed many systems to the brink of financial ruin and the risk of permanent closure.

How many times does area under the curve need to be explained?

This is the kind of reaction that causes some to never leave the house. We are all dying, if life's precious, live fully. Many people aren't happy sitting around for very long.

Nah. They are sincere and complete separation would stop the spread. But we can't do that, so we chose the lite version.
Epidemiologist's aren't economists which is why they prefer draconian measures. But everything has a limit, ar some point you have to listen yo other "experts" in other fields.
Epidemiology Doesn't teach these guys what happens in the lives of others if their wishes are followed 100%.

Will deaths from Covid 19 match heart attacks, stroke, and cancer for the year. We should hope not. But those deaths are already factored in in terms of hospital capacity, EMS response time, medical supply. Do you want to risk having normally 5 minute response time for an ambulance turn into a 15 minute one?

No it hasn't. In fact things have been booming.
