What about the ambition that many of us have to change things and not settle for mediocrity? Call it a sense of entitlement if you like, but I work my arse off because I want more for myself and my family and believe that where you come from doesn't matter as much as what you do with the skills you have to earn the right to have and do the things you want.

Do you guys think you're the only ones who have ever been idealistic? That's not unique to your generation. We were all idealistic and ambitious. We wanted more for our families just like you. We work hard just like you say you do. And that idea is referred to as "greed" by you guys. Why is your desire to go beyond "mediocrity" noble but for the previous generations it was greed? It's no different for any generation. You guys just critique thru the lens of history. Talk to me when you're in your 70s and we'll see how you did!

Wow what a novel idea. Look kid, that was tried already by the boomers in the sixties. Good luck doing it better than those hippies did

And yet your generation whines and pisses and moans about how fricked up everything is. For so much enlightenment, you don't seem to know much.

It was a joke. I personally think that every generation has great people and shitty people within it. We're just as young and stupid as any other generation was, and one day, we'll look at the younger generations and make snide comments. It's just fun to be young and say "frick you, old man! I'm going to live forever." while I still can outrun him.

If they raised a shitty generation, they're probably not a great generation.

Again with the broad stroke. Who said anything about greed? Certainly not I...I say shoot for the moon. If someone doesn't achieve and get what they want out of life, it's on them and no one else is to blame. I'm sure many of your generation were idealistic and worked hard to provide for families, my parents included. I wouldn't be where I am today without what they did, I know that. I also know they and so many of my peers parents settled and never made many of their dreams happened, complained, but didn't do anything to change it. I'm not like that and neither are so many of my generation. We won't stop because we can't with how the current state of the country. Those same ideals ingrained in you are in us, we simply have more tools at our disposal so there's no excuses. 70? Naw, at 40 I'll have you over for dinner and show you how right I was.

Posted by siliconvalleytiger I think the recession was a wake up call for many gen yers. Their egos suffered the most.
What does that even mean?

If we consider the dates of the OP to be correct, Gen Y wasn't even affected by the recession. The ones hit by the recession were the boomers and X.

How were their egos affected?

We are special because we are rare. Sandwiched between two hugely annoying generations who take narcissism to a new level.
