This is what our moral betters at the New York Times opinion page think of the people of Southwest Louisiana.
But, despite the fact Lake Charles is a terrible place full of evil, racist people, which probably deserved to get demolished by a hurricane, it is nevertheless bad that Lake Charles and surrounding areas were destroyed by Hurricane Laura because it makes me feel sad personally. That’s the gist of the article.

let’s be honest, Lake Charles, which suffered the brunt of the storm, isn’t easy to love.
It’s a petrochemical town on a “working coast,” and like the wetlands it sits on, it gets the job done but isn’t much to look at. Sprawling big-box stores, strip malls and parking lots, car dealerships, mobile home parks, pipe yards, fast food franchises. All those chemical plants, too, turning petroleum into ingredients for your shampoo, disinfectants, milk cartons, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, toys, shoes, furniture, electronics. And the poison those plants belch into the air and lakes and bayous — in which we swim, from which we eat.
In some ways, Southwest Louisiana is exactly what you think it is. Lake Charles is the kind of place where a committee of mostly white officials can vote to keep a Confederate monument on the courthouse lawn (until Hurricane Laura blew it down) despite the fact that more than half of the city’s population is Black or brown. Its schools and neighborhoods are deeply segregated. When my friend Ellen’s family — who are Chinese-American — bought a house in a white neighborhood in 1980, their housewarming gift was a dead cat on the doorstep. Almost a quarter of the city’s population of 78,000 lives below the poverty line. In 2016, the metro area voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump and almost certainly will again.

Remember that time all those politicians wanted to help the O&G industry that LC relies on? Remember when they went to help and see about people after The 2016 floods and Hurricane Laura?
Oh wait that was Trump.

Nice of you to purposely leave out the second half of the article where she talks about how much she still loves the area and that it's not right the suffering of the people due to Hurricane Laura is being ignored.

I reject her entire premise and find it absolutely repugnant she would write, and they would publish, something like this that’s dripping with culture war bullshite under these circumstances.

errr nerrr i didn't proof read before I posted!
yeah, thats much worse than OP blatantly misrepresenting the point of the article.

Why is Clay Higgins not leading the charge to get federal funds to help out the area? Too drunk ranting and raving on Facebook to do his job?

Neat. Congrats on being fake news ya hypocrite.

So that makes the first half of that back-handed bullshite okay? An elitist hack can smugly insult an area that was just devastated by a natural disaster, where thousands of people are without power and without homes, because then he says "but I still like it guys!" If I described you as a fat, stupid, moronic piece of shite, but then lightly punched your shoulder and told you "but I guess you're alright my dude!", would you laugh off everything that preceded the second part?

A person has complicated feelings with the area they grew up in? They don't like a lot about it but still love it deep down?!?!

Why is the first half even necessary or relevant? Let’s say the area votes for Hillary? Would the author feel differently?

This article isn't any different than how all y'all dipshits on this site shite all over NOLA for a million reasons but then flip your shite and defend it like crazy as the GOAT special event city in the USA any time somebody doesn't bow down and kiss the city's taint whenever locations for big sporting events are discussed. Get some self awareness.

Damn Asians
I mean it’s not like Louisiana welcomed more Vietnamese than any other state and they have thrived here
Ny times and the post are paid to write anything that they deem as racist

Louisiana doesn't have more Vietnamese than any other state. It's not even top 5.

Yeah. Let’s just forget about the part where she said that an Asian family had a dead cat on their front porch 40 years ago to paint a racist picture.
