Are you under the impression that all metal roofs are 12/12?

But to answer your deflection, about 2 7/16" of ice would make for a 2" dam of water. This would cause over-topping and infiltration of most any metal roof corrugation or standing seam in the South.

Hell of an lot cheaper than a new architectural shingle roof.

I just had my roof replaced last summer. However, I’m still gonna go upstairs tomorrow and take a look around just to see. Better to find it early than regret it later.

Well, the composite shingle roof was ~4X cheaper than a metal roof at install. So they have a little wiggle room.

And for the record, architectural shingles have come a long way aesthetically, but I love metal roofs, especially on anything steeper than 8/12
