In a viral TikTok video, a graduate student shared what she gets at Aldi that's both affordable and filling.

In the clip, Marlee Scott (@marleemscott) films from her kitchen after picking up her grocery haul from Aldi.

"Eating healthy but cheap from aldi," the text overlay on the video reads.

Aldi is a discount supermarket chain with a cult following akin to Trader Joe's. The company is known for having a limited selection and high-quality food at affordable prices. They also sell many private-label items akin to their name-brand counterparts. The stores are also known to have friendly customer service.

In the video, Scott explains that she wanted to share her Aldi shopping haul for people heading off to college soon and nervous about having to do their own grocery shopping.

In total, her food hauls hovered around $30 a week—about $120 a month

I’ve said this to anyone that will listen:

The best way to be healthy and frugal is to learn how to cook. Yes, food prices have skyrocketed (thanks Biden) but if you look closer, the biggest price jumps are in food that involves more human labor to create (prepared food, processed snacks, etc).

If you buy mostly raw ingredients like meat, flour, vegetables etc your food budget can remain low no matter where you shop.

I just watched some of her TikToks. She's cute and apparently lives at the beach with her boyfriend.

Completely false. Meats are much more expensive than before covid

Go to Costco. Get three pack of ham, eggs, spinach. Make omelet every day for breakfast. Cheap, healthy, keeps you full way past noon

While true, I can still find boneless chicken breasts for under $3 a pound

This just isn't that accurate. Meat prices have skyrocketed, and a lot of veggies have gone up too.

I was paying 99 cents on the regular until Covid, and now it's 1.99 at best, and usually 2.50.

Another varient to this is to only shop on the outside walls and avoid the aisles.

Most supermarkets are arranged the same with fresh produce, baked goods, meats, seafood and dairy products around the outside and the inner aisles have cereals, snacks, junk food and frozen meals.

Never turn down the aisle and you will eat healthy at a much cheaper price. I see foreigners doing this all the time. They fill up the cart with mostly fruits and vegetables including peppers for seasoning, add some chicken thighs and maybe fish then toss in a big bag of flour and rice and they are out the door for less than $50 and enough food to feed the family for a week.

Went to Aldi's about a month and a half ago for the first time.. Biggest take away was a huge assortment of "take and bake" pizza.. Same for dips and cheeses. Decent prices on those. Their prices for meat, chicken and sausage weren't that great (like regular grocery). Great prices on spices.. Decent prices on off brand frozen veggies. Regular prices on name brand frozen foods.. I did find it odd that there was a pallet of bagged dirt off in the corner of the store.. This particular store (Veterans near David dr) is a smaller type store that you wouldn't go to for your regular grocery shopping.
