I need to make some small hobbit doors that are about 47 by 30 for attic access from upstairs rooms. Do stores sell door jambs that I can cut down to fit inside of my opening? And what do I do about the door? I ain't ordering a $500 custom door to fit this opening. Solid core door?

And it needs to be weatherproof since it will be going into an attic.

HELP, Love Broke

Yes, your husband will probably help if you ask him

YT video of guy building a door opening by hand

It's pretty easy if you've got the right tools.

Just cut a solid door to fit.

Most 'bought' door jambs aren't heavy duty enough to insulate against what is esentially an outdoor space.

Make your own out of 2x4s ir 2x6s, you need enough to make an upside down U. Then 1x4s for surrounds. the 'door' will be a piece of plywood to fit inside the 2x6s. on the back of that, 2x2s on all four sides, insulation to fill it and a backing of thin plywood or whatever you have handy.
Hinges go into the 2x2s and two should be sufficient. It should be made to open into the 'outdoor' space.
door jams on the inside to stop any breezes.

Maybe a saturday morning job if you are confident with a table saw, a bit longer if you have a non table saw.

It should fit so snugly that no door knob or locks are needed.

We did this on our remodeled farm house and it's been good for 25 years no.

If you or the family tend to walk into the tops of door casings, get a piece of foam pipe wrap and cut a quarter segment out and use the foam pipe to cushion the part your head would run into.

if he has to ask, he probably does, that could be done in about 3-4 beers with minimal carpentry skills

You were better off leaving this on the Outdoor Board.

Only if you’re also doing other work around the house. If not it is always wise to stretch whatever work you have to the full six pack.

Honestly just get your rough opening measurements and bring it to a lumber yard and let them order it for you. Definitely not 500 bucks. Maybe half that

Get a full bound frame ( 4 sides framed with weather stripping all the way) Easier to cut down a solid core flush door

Most of the times that I have seen this, people basically used doors like you would put on a cabinet.
