If it's that size and black it's probably a rat snake. Not sure why it would go in your house unless there's food for it to eat. Might want to see if you have mice/rats.

Probably not even that much. I can't think of a solid black venomous snake in LA unless it's a really dark cottonmouth.
And a 4 ft cottonmouth would be pretty fat and distinguishable. It's probably a black racer. It'll bite and it might hurt a little.

Borrow a rooster from someone and it definitely will kill the snake. However, getting a rooster out of your house is a bitch...a large tom cat will solve that problem but you'll need a pit bull to chase the cat out. The only think those suckers are scared of is a snake...so ....
