Kicked the alcohol habit and the bad food habits? That’s pretty damn awesome man. Well done.

Awesome job. Congratulations on your sobriety and your healthy living.

I’m attempting to tackle both of those myself currently.

Tall order to do both at the same time but frick it. I’m tired of going around in the same circle. And for me the alcohol is 75% of my weight issues between the empty calories of the alcohol and eating crap when I drink that I would not other wise eat.
It’s just time.

Well it's been 3 weeks sober for me as of today (I know big deal, I've seen longer sober streaks in the quad... )

Big deal for me though, I've done this a few time but this time it feels different. I can think about alcohol and I don't even want it. Like when I quit smoking 20 years ago. Finally got to the point I wanted to quit and when I did, (after the initial physical cravings passed) poof, my need and want for them were gone.

Anyway, small victories. Also as an added bonus I'm back in the gym and down 16 pounds in 3 weeks.

Yep. And after you go for awhile without, your hangovers will be so bad when you try it again that you will double down. At least that's my experience. I drink maybe once a week now on average, but sometimes go 2-3 weeks with nothing. No drinking means you tend not to eat like an a-hole either so the benefits are compounded.

fantastic. Isn't it great to actually crave healthy foods?

That’s me. I craze oatmeal, avocados and tomatoes.

Well, and I’ve cream but I limit that. My weight is low, my energy high, and I survive fine. Walking about 20 miles a week plays a huge part. I wish that I liked to life weights, but I hate it. I’m just going to be thin and I’m fine with that.

True. A good wild caught salmon should be a staple in everyone's diet.

I grill every weekend for enjoyment and for better eating. A 2 lb salmon for HEB in on the rotation. Also, while chickens where I remove the skin and then inject the chicken with a simple BBQ/Vinigar solution and grill standing up eith can of sounded in the middle. Skinless, whole chicken for the week and it coast me about $6.

I have posted this before - but last August I was 347, today I am 178.9. I started my lifestyle change in regards to food in October at 305, and in that shot of time i have dropped my weight significantly.

went from borderline type 1 diabetes to no longer being close to it, BP meds cut in 1/2. has been an eye opening experience. from 4xl shirts to large, size 48-50 pants to 36's. i can now fit in airline seats comfortable, can use my tray table and no seat belt extenders.

my wife is down about 120 pounds herself, and neither of us have felt better. it is far easier to keep the weight off than I ever thought possible, but i am a believer.

I've heard that. I do not plan on testing out that theory though. I know I'm one of those people that can't just drink once a week or month. One will turn into just on the weekends which will turn back into every night again.

It's cool though, I did pretty well hanging out with friends who were all drinking and refusing the temptation. I was proud of myself but it's not a situation I really want to put myself in a lot even though my friends were great in not pushing me to drink, I more tempted myself. Well like with everything new you have to feel your way through for a while till you get the hang of it I guess.

“You’re a runner, aren’t you?”

I’d like to have a nickel for every time I’ve heard that too.

Slept over 7 hours straight last night, my heart rate got down to 41 bpm while I was sleeping.

No C-Pap needed.

And the other bedroom sport is going well, thank you very much.

Never had meds for anything heart or metabolism-related. Not many 60 year olds can say that.

I can eat as much of anything at anytime as I want because the rest of my diet is so disciplined.

Good whisk(e)y, good wine, good beer, only; obviously in moderation.

I simply tell myself what to do.

Clothes fit better too.

Going swimming in public is not embarrassing.

I don’t know how folks allow themselves to go to shite, it’s pain just to watch.

Congrats to the OP.

That's awesome, and I hope you are able to maintain it.

I've done the weight loss thing several times, but I always end up at the same weight I have been since college.

I've been 225-245 for so long, it's all I really know. I am 6'1", and have always carried it well. I don't think I will be able to as I approach mid-40s. I got down to 200 for a while, but it was hard to maintain. Have been wanting to try to change my ways, but I suck.

I started gaining weight when my wife needed to gain weight. She has trouble putting on weight. So, we fix meals to "fatten her up" but I end up eating more than she does.
