Nope, tbh i keep to myself mostly. A couple of years ago they stopped a trucker with a dead body in his cab. There very well could be an sk in any profession. I've heard this mentioned a few times in this thread already. Weird.
Anytime a semi has to slow down suddenly from a slow down ahead or bad weather hits quick, fog, we are trained to throw on emergency blinkers to alert drivers behind us esp other truckers. Anytime we see hazards on, we know there is an immediate slow down ahead. It's a nice heads up cause you can see them a mile away giving you proper and timely notice to start slowing down.

Do you ever Jake brake, and what is your opinion on the practice?

when you pass another rig that you’re going 1 mph faster than. Insanity.

Not reading 16 pages, so if someone bitches because i didn’t and asked my question previously you can feel free to stfu about it. Op can just tell me what page it’s on if so.
Are you seeing fewer people get into the business? It’s a thankless job for the most part I know, but absolutely vital to keep everyone alive. I worry a bit that because of the time and financial costs to do it we’ll have significant supply chain problems in the not so distant future.

Is it the same thing as "engine braking" and why do truckers use it on flat roads, to the point municipalities have banned it?

quote:I don't think so. I see so many like twice a week orientation of new drivers when I'm at a major terminal and those have about 15 or more new drivers coming aboard each time. I know turnover is big because once a driger gain hia time they move on to higher paying jobs that required experience. That's all I know. Ever since the modern internet exploded(since late 90s), logistics on transportation has blown up. The appreciation part has been a big topic of concern for many companies. Companies that care about their drivers discover and implement different ways to show that "hey we care" and your not just another number when other transportation companies dgaf who you are. I can tell you that each job done has to be a big lock of money cause each job cost alot in fuel. The fuel cost is insane to run semi tractor/trailers and you have to pay the driver, then the company gets the rest. I've always found that even now they is a substantial need for drivers. Most transportation/logistics companies are highering.

Yeah engine braking is the same as Jake brakes. The only thing I can see is the sound is really loud?
I'll use Jake brakes on hills and with my service brakes(regular air brakes) some. I never ever thought of using my Jake's on a flat surface.

Truckers take an extensive drug exam. Urine and hair to be employed for my company. By design, meth wouldn't go well with being a driver. You need to sleep once you clock out.

What do you do to entertain yourself for 11 hours straight? Podcasts? Music? I legitimately think I would lose my fricking mind after doing this for a few weeks.
Maybe it's not as bad as I think though. Convince me to quit my white collar corporate job and hit the road....

See any good titles while you drive?
Is flashing a truck driver a thing or are they scared you will hunt them down?

Why can’t you guys seem to understand how much you impede traffic when you camp in the left hand lane? And why does that shite only happen in Louisiana?

Have a list of people you talk to daily and call them.
Mix in lunch.(30 minute break)
Think about where your going to pull up for overnight accommodations and food.
Think about your weekly pay check
Drink water/propel
See the sites
Stay in line with your gps
Work your stops.
You will think about every facet of life and have conversations in your mind about them. lol. It is taxing I can admit but you could be doing real labor. Trucking is easy and interesting tbh.
I try if possible to only drive around 8.5 to 10 hrs tops. Always plan ahead to stop for your 10hr break before you get to close to your 11.

1. You get to drive and see the country.
2. On weekends off away from home, pick anything to do for fun.
3. You are your "own" boss on the road.
4. Learn about trucks/tractors
5. Good pay, excellent benefits
6. You can even bring someone to ride along.
7. If you learn to be an owner operator, you can run your own business, be the employer and employee. You can bank 150-200k per/yr after bills.
8. I don't know what else. I think of my job as a field trip. My truck is my camper.
9. You can bring your dog to be your road buddy. Dogs love this shite. I've seen big dogs and small dogs.
10 what else?
