I don't understand why people either don't get or don't care how this careless attitude is beating the shite out of the healthcare industry right now. We're getting boats to help take care of the not COVID patients, for crying out loud. And NO ONE knows if this will just be a little virus for them or will actually put them in ICU. There's literally no way to predict it.
Random test sampling of population will change the game imo.

quote:

"I talked to Dr. John Ioannidis of Stanford. He is an epidemiology professor there," she continued. "He said this something that really needs to get done as soon as possible. And the reason why is this will provide us an accurate baseline to know what percentage of the population is infected and actually what the true mortality rate is. And this gives us a better baseline from which public officials can operate from to make decisions like when to reopen the economy, when to send people back to work."

The data collected so far on how many people are infected and how the epidemic is evolving are utterly unreliable. Given the limited testing to date, some deaths and probably the vast majority of infections due to SARS-CoV-2 are being missed," Ioannidis wrote in a March 17 op-ed. "We don’t know if we are failing to capture infections by a factor of three or 300.”

I posted a video from a doctor in NYC, and from what he's seen, the only demo that has shown to completely risk free from harsh symptoms is 0-14 years old. You're right, odds are that your symptoms will be mild and you'll be fine, but how can you truly predict it.

And I read a 1 year old died in Chicago recently. But I don't know anything about those circumstances.

And you could walk outside and get hit by a car. Or struck by lightning.

You have a higher chance of either of those happening than having serious issues with Covid if you're outside the at risk groups.

Which is why, in the end, all of this is bullshite.

No, it’s simply recognizing that being outdoors and exercising is positive and the virus won’t spread if proper distance is maintained. Hence it’s a high reward, low risk scenario.

It’s actually very very very simple and I can’t fathom how so many people are so fricking stupid about this shite.

These numbers are with incomplete data for infection totals. So the mortality percentages will be lower across the board

Because they are driven by their emotions. Just look at sicboy's responses in this thread.

My wife is a nurse and has kept up with a lot of medical articles on this.

But I'm being emotional.

I've got one life to live and I'm not going to spend swaths of it in fear of dying. If I get the virus, I get the virus. Death is coming for everyone and everything. No sense in panicking over our ultimate fate

People that take this position should be forced to sign a waiver stating they will not be allowed to receive hospital care, particularly not a vent if they get sick

Which happens every time some political or media jackass gets on tv and talks about how "this may go longer than we think" or some other doomsday scenario because they like the attention.

This creates panic buying, which exposes more people, which causes more cases.

It's a nice little feedback loop.

Well you're saying things like this:
"And NO ONE knows if this will just be a little virus for them or will actually put them in ICU. There's literally no way to predict it."

Which is an emotional response, not one directed by the data.
