I don't respect people when they tell me they believe in ghosts

What is a ghost anyway, physically speaking? Why can't real scientific institutions prove they exist, but cornballs on TV can?

What's the physics behind it? Are they bound by gravity? What about animals?

Which is why I post TLDR when I see a thread on ghost.

This really needed its own thread.

I'm not a "believer" but I'm not necessarily a denier.

I think the consensus is they are not of this world/dimension and as such our physics do not apply and our instruments can't detect them.

I honestly didn't even see that somebody posted a ghost story until afterwards.

Maybe supernatural forces are at play?

How was this determined? Somebody heard some noises they can't explain and therefore that's proof that there's entities that live outside the constraints of physics?

People in the 1600s didn't, and couldn't, conceive of a cell phone. Why not be open to something going on we just cannot fathom yet?

If I were alivein 1600 and somebody told me that an iphone existed without providing evidence, I would rightfully call bullshite.

Maybe ghosts will exist in 400 years. All I know is that they do not exist right now.

Obviously all speculation.

But think of it like this... imagine a being that lives in a 2 (spatial) dimensional world, a flat plane. It can't see or interact with anything outside of those two dimensions. It isn't even aware that there's a 3rd dimension. Now imagine that this 2 dimensional world exists inside or part of our 3 dimensional world. We might not ever notice it since it is so thin as to not really exist to us, but if we pass through it then that 2 dimensional being might detect us for a split second. It might not know what we are or what happened, just that "something" was there. Or we might detect that world as "something" that we can kinda sorta interact with. Now it's difficult for us to imagine a 4th spatial dimension, but let's try and think how beings in that world would see or interact with us?

Or something like that. I am neither drunk nor high. Edit: Nor an idiot as far as I know.

They've done plenty experiments where people will deny the reality they see due to social pressure. Say you take 30 people in a room and tell them to look at a screen and flash a red dot for 0.5 seconds. You tell them it's an eye test. Now 1-29 are "in on it", you've hired them to lie and claim the dot was green. #30 doesn't know this. You go around the room and ask in order. #30 watching everyone answer goes through a process of shock, questioning, self doubt, and finally conformity. By the time you get to #30 he agrees it was green. On repeated tests 90+% of people will conform. It takes an incredibly rare person to stand up against that.

That may be true. But still.. if you put 30 random people in the room without anyone being “in on it” and only one says the dot was green, odds are he’s probably colorblind.

My BIL saw one on a hunting trip in Kansas.

It was in an old Sears Roebuck house (close to 100 years old, arrived on a train and then was assembled) the farmer who owned the land rented to hunters. He was with 3 other men.

My BIL is a straight shooter in life, no bs kinda guy, devout Christian.

He was on the phone with my sister, brushing his teeth and looking in the mirror, getting ready to go to bed. Then he saw a woman ghost in the hallway in the mirror. He turned around and she eased through a door into another room.

The next day the farmer stopped by and heard the group talking about it. He said “oh you saw her? The last bunch that hunted here she called out one of their names.” Ha, wtf.

You don't think it could have more to with being in some strange old house in the middle of nowhere while thinking about killing things, while sleeping and ready to go to bed that might influence some people to see things like this?

My BIL is as grounded as any human I’ve ever met. He has a logical answer for everything. Razor sharp dude.

He knows what he saw and has never changed his story. I’ll go with what he told me. Then the farmer backing it up… yea.

Fwiw he said she was translucent.
