Complaining about the cost of kids yet having more kids. Hard to feel bad for you.

We have two. Travel hockey alone costs us about $20k a year for one. The other isn’t interested in sports tho, thank God. He just wants to join the military after HS and go make a life for himself. So anyway, I’m guessing over $100k a year with everything between the two of them

If you break his legs he can’t play hockey anymore.

Children are preposterously expensive. I'm continually shocked by how much clothes, shoes, food, and assorted extracurricular activities cost. Everything continues to get more costly, seemingly by the day.

Do you pay $18k per year for daycare?

If your kids go to public school when they get there this is one of the bigger raises you ever get haha.

If they go to private schools you live in purgatory forever.

We know folks whose son did the hockey travel thing. When they first described it, I thought he was a high schooler. Nope. He was in the fourth or fifth grade. They kept the traveling through high school. Didn't come within miles of getting a college athletic scholarship, and had no interest in scholarship of any kind.
Currently bar tending in Denver, where his interest in grass is cheaply afforded.

Parents couldn't afford it, lost a house they were buying.

That’s insane! We hear about all the different travel sports or activities on the OT, but does anyone know anyone that has gotten their kid into kart racing?

I can vouch.
I played for a Kansas City team back in the late nineties and I traveled every single weekend to play unless we were home.

Probably the most fun years of my life.

League fees, plane tickets, rental cars, hotel stays, equipment, stuff to do when we get to wherever destination we’re going to, etc. We went to Denver, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Austin, Houston, and Boston last season.

Shoot. We must’ve played over 40-50 games. Practice a couple times a week. I traveld as far South as Dallas and as far north as Quad City (this team was ridiculous)

Have any of y’all ever thought about a dog or a cat instead? Same unconditional love and fulfillment but without the financial slavery.

Skate sharpening, tape, sticks depending on how rough the kid is in the hardware.

Hockey is a very expensive sport to get started in.

Yeah parents have to have a buckled down budget to afford travel hockey.

Not to mention, you will at some point end up in the ER.

I had to go during a tournament up in Des Moines. High stick to the face, braces ended up in my gums and a couple teeth were dangly.

Broken nose

Stitches in lips multiple times

Fun times.

How much does daycare contribute to Dr visits?

Little kids in daycare get exposed to lots of colds, flu, stomach bugs, etc.

Exactly. And he’s a goalie.
