Sleep studies are not cheap, and you have to get it through a doctor's orders. It's not like you say, "what the frick, think I'll go in for a sleep study...only 20 bucks." It's hundreds of dollars (even with insurance). So if you go get one, it's already assumed that you pretty much have apnea and they're just verifying that. That's why you don't hear too many people who go get one only to be told they don't have it. Now, that being said, I know two guys who were told they didn't have apnea after doing a sleep study. Restless leg, but not apnea.
Sleep apnea is not a scam. If gone untreated, you will eventually have a stroke in your sleep in your later years.

They go up to 30. Maybe yours isn’t high enough. Sometimes I feel mine is not high enough when I first put it on but it’s psychological, I slow my breathing down and slow my heart rate and it passes. What does yours go up to during sleeping? Because some also ramp up in pressure, lower to start then gradually increasing to whatever is needed.

I had a sleep study done last year. Before the sleep study I actually used an app called snorelabs to record my snoring for a month. It is a pretty neat app. I used the paid version as it had some cool features that I wanted to use. Give that app a try. You just need to keep your phone on your bed stand plugged in during the whole night and start the app before going to bed and it will record your entire night sleep and show the snoring in a nice graphical way and can replay the snoring back to you. I actually used the recordings to convince my general physician that I needed a sleep study as he was initially reluctant to order a sleep study.

She did tell me that I had almost no REM sleep, which could help explain why I am tired all the time.
That might be the indication of apneas and hypopneas.
I didn't have REM sleep during the diagnostic phase of my sleep study. Anyways, you should be hearing back from them in about a week or two. Either they'll look at other options for diagnosis or you'll be finding a time to pick up or have them deliver a cpap machine and get your sleep study report.

If he's getting low rem, this isn't the best idea. Dreaming is overrated though.

I don't snore either. I do have sleep apnea but it's "Central" sleep apnea. LINK My brain basically has trouble telling my body to breathe like it should.
I've had this since I was in the Army and weighed 167 pounds. This type of sleep apnea has nothing to do with size. There are two types, obstructive and central. If you have central, you won't snore but will stop breathing. If you are married ask your wife, she will know. Before I was diagnosed it used to freak my wife out when I stopped breathing. If you do have it, get treated, it will kill you.
If you let it progress it will manifest itself elsewhere. I've had heart surgery for AFIB and will likely have it again at some point in the future. I have to use a CPAP or I feel horrible.

you would be correct. I looked my machine up and you are right.
As a side note, I used to have pretty severe allergies. Since I have used my machine my allergies are gone. The humidifier is basically an air filter too. Breathing filtered air in the night has helped my allergies.
Side note 2... Having a mask press on my face has caused the front plate of my skull to shift ever so slightly over time. It caused my lifetime of straight teeth to shift. I had to get Invisalign’s at 45 years old because of it.
It’s still worth it.

Yeah, I feel the same way when I start it up. I just keep my mouth open for a few seconds and let my heart rate slow down a tad before settling in. And yes, mine ramps up. I believe it starts at 5ish. When I wake up in the night, I’ve only ever seen it at 11. I assume that means it doesn’t need more pressure? It’s set to limit at 15, I think.

Long story short.... take it again while on ambien.
Or just buy and Auto CPAP. No need to take the test if you're just trying to stop snoring.

I don't think I have ever heard of anyone doing a sleep study that did not get recommended a CPAP...
It happens all the time.

I can't imagine. I was playing with mine and turned it up to 18 and felt like my ears were gonna blow out.

They told me I don't wake up but I remember waking up at least 5 times. I got the machine and I sleep much better. I hate it, but I use it every night now for 6 years.
