Just because .01% of a profession can do that doesn’t make me an idiot.

I’m not saying you should kill yourself. But I will say your mom would have been doing the world a favor if she’d have just given your dad a BJ the night you were conceived.

So the top of the profession doesn’t make $100k? Thanks for confirming

You are 50 years old and make $70k. Had to send your wife to work because you can’t provide for your family. Pathetic

But if they work for a dealership

dealerships are typically starter jobs for mechanics. Shitty booktime work for mediocre pay. The better money comes with 10yrs experience and being a lead mechanic at an independent shop. Dealerships are meat grinders.

very very few are pulling that. And only with a shitload of overtime can they hit 140k+ Not a very sustainable way to live an upper middleclass life.

Yeah if you work yourself to death, you can make an upper middle class income. While working every waking minute in a labor intensive job. Sounds awesome

They’ve so over-engineered engines now, largely to meet government requirements

Bingo. frick all the regulations. They're half the reason everything costs so much. And then they outlaw shite that works (like R-12 and DDT) in order to sell us more expensive and less efficient and effective shite.

For reference, the 89 Ford Ranger had 140 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque

For comparison, the 2025 Ranger has base 270hp (up to 405), and 310 lb-ft of torque (up to 430)

Well to be fair, they also weighed about 1,500 pound less so they did not need as much power. They also ran forever.

That’s just what I know is listed on postings but they are pretty in demand so good ones are probably squeezing a dollar or two more an hour.

Very few are working straight 40 hours

It’s not bad money for people with no degree

Construction equipment is a different ball game and those techs can make a ton of money. Good crane techs can name their number but they are hard to find

Where those guys can really make the big bucks is to first build up a relationship with customers while working for a dealership, then go out on their own. Basically all they have to do is save up enough to buy their own field service truck. I’ve seen a few of them do this, mostly the ones who work on coal mining machines, and they’re very successful.

I’m well over 50 and make almost twice that much. But thanks for trying.

Hell, even Toyota and Honda have some questionable engineering. I saw a video the other day where they had to take something simple (a heater core or something like that) out of Tacoma. They wound up having to take the whole damn dashboard out. It took several hours just to get to the part.

I know dash removal has been necessary for a heater core or evaporator replacement on F150s (and Tundras since 2nd gen) for at least 25 years.

So you'd drive a truck with 140 hp today, Darth?

That may be true in the automotive industry, it’s not true in the earth moving equipment world though.
