A nearly full bottle of morphine, 2 bottles of Roxicets (they'd just show up every 15 days or so), Ativan, and about three little pump cartridge things that went to something in her arm that had like 4 different meds in them.

Peg tubes and dialysis are not consistent with the purpose of hospice.

I agree ... but there are some in our area that have patients under their care that 1) get peg feedings (I mean I guess how do you withdraw nutrition unless it comes out and not reinserted? and 2) dialysis that was already ordered.
I don't get it but whatever I guess??

Are all of your people DNR? I even have seen hospice that had residents that weren't DNR. WTH??

A peg tube is normally a terrible thing. I hate them.
Even before I was a hospice nurse I hated them.
There are few instances where a peg tube is anything other than sustaining life with no benefit.

Hospice pushes DNRs on admit but sometimes it takes a little work to get the decider there.
People tend to think CPR is like the movies.
It is actually a brutal thing and results in crushed ribs for most old folks

When my mother was on hospice we were given a booklet on the stages of dying and everything to expect. It hit to a T. Do you see that in most patients?
Also, props to you on what you do. That is not an easy job.

Hypothetically speaking, what would you do if someone with a DNR goes into an arrest and is clearly struggling and in distress? Just stand by and hope it's over quickly?

Yeah. The clock starts when fluid intake stops.
If the person has some fat and muscle, they may last a week.
If they are emaciated, it’s usually 3-4 days.

We got my mom into assisted living for hospice because the GD hospital insisted she just go home to die. No family members lived in the same city. My aunts and I were going back and forth, but I can't help my stubborn mother go to the bathroom. They said they'd have someone come over once a week to check on her. Well that's just super helpful thanks guys. She needs meds every few hours. The nurse she was assigned was awesome though!
