In for the melts if you decide to keep him.

That's definitely a reason to freak out. Mid life crisis maybe? Kids are tough to raise. And she's probably selfish and wishes she was still single and trolling for dick.

I have a rescued boxer/pit/hound dog mix. Best dog ever. He was rescued as a puppy and I couldn't ask for a better dog. I had never had a dog, he moved in when my BF came to FL to live with me. He is 100% my dog now. Always by my side, loves to play, sleeps on my pillow, absolutely amazing dog.
Enjoy your pup, and frick the OT's opinion.

You'll be fine OP. Just make sure you are around the dog when your children are and make sure it knows you are the alpha and the Omega

Just get it tested. It may not be a pit.
If it is, give it a 10 or 20 foot head start.

Any dog, even a little dog like a Chihuahua, can snap at a young child.
You should always be supervising your children anyway.
If you or the wife are really that concerned, just keep the dog and children separated in the backyard.
Can you provide a pic of said puppy?
TIA

WTH is wrong with you? Asking for pics of a dog when a wife is involved...

This place is in the shitter.

Like any dog, if you treat it and raise it like shite, it will probably be a shitty dog with a bad temperament. If you raise it correctly, it’s no more dangerous to your family than any other large breed dog.

Just recreate the scene of Ol Yeller. It will make the whole family stronger.

Several years ago somebody threw a very young puppy out of their car onto the highway. I came around the curve and saw it in the road and picked it up. It had road rash and wasn't using it's back legs. At the time, it wasn't any more than 6 weeks old.
I dropped it off with the vet I used to work for and the first thing he said was "You picked up a pit, didn't you?" He didn't find anything broken, gave it a shot of cortisone and she was fine. I brought her home and hoped for the best.
Fast forward and she's about 6 months old and gets along great with my other dogs. I was asked to keep a co-workers dog (Sheltie if i remember correctly)for a few days. After 2-3 days I get a call from my neighbor, and he had been outside, heard some fussing and looked over in time to see my pup grab the coworkers dog by the throat, shake it a few times and it was dead. It had never shown any sign of aggression to my dogs or to us previously.
I wouldn't have another dog that had any amount of pit again.
tldr , Get it the hell out of there. The sooner the better.
