If all plans go accordingly I should be arriving in Houston around 1-2pm tomorrow afternoon enroute to San Antonio. Will I beat the friday afternoon traffic taking 10 directly through Houston or should I hop on one of the loops?

You're fine to stay on I10

Should be OK that time of day. But, you never know. I clocked the mileage from Baytowne where the urban area begins to the western side of Houston metro traveling on I-10 where urban area ends. 72 miles!

Your good. Don't run any later than 330

The loops are bigger than they look on the map. Do not do this.

unless there is an unforeseen accident, you'll be fine at that time frame. it's past 3, where you're shite out of luck.

I-10 to I-69 South, get off at Elgin and go west until you get to Westheimer. Take Westheimer all the way to Highway 6. Go north on Highway 6 until you hit I-10 again.
You'll avoid all of the traffic

How's the stretch between Houston and San Antonio?
We're only staying in San Antonio the night and wanted to see the Alamo before it shuts down for vistiors. Hotel is the riverwalk Drury.

I'll have to bookmark this. Hopefully waze or google maps will pick this up.

That's retarded.
OP..there are billboards every so often that tell how many minutes from where you are to certain intersections, just pay attention to those. 610 is about 10 miles outside of the city center..beltway 8 is about 20 miles outside..Grand Parkway 99 is about 30 miles...you do the math and decide if how.many.minutes is too long for each distance.

Outside of an actual shut down of a few lanes, there isn't much of a reason to get off 10 going through Houston.

Use the waze app for the best route to avoid traffic. I 10 should be fine at that time though.

To me, Houston begins on the east side at Mont Belvieu and ends west of Katy. I don't think people realize just how sprawling Houston is until it's been experienced. That 60 mile stretch will seem forever. If you're going to stop in Houston, at least stop once you're on the west side of Loop 610.

Take the Tanglewood Toll Tunnel.
You're welcomed.

Real advice: if you have a toll tag hop in the I-10 managed lanes that start at the 610 west loop. I think they may have an hov at that time of day too, if you have 2+ in your vehicle.

It will be two of us but I do not have a toll tag

Taste of Texas is our pick to pull over for a good meal.

I'll probably pick up some boudin and a few wraps from Billys on the way in and that should hold us off til we get to San Antonio. We're pushing for time trying to get to the Alamo before it closes down for the day.

By City Centre? At 1-2pm..he will be done eating right at rush hour and sitting in traffic with the meat sweats.
