Starting with the College Drive flyover ramp from I-10.

Construction to simplify the process of exiting to College Drive from I-10 will begin in March, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

The project will include a flyover from I-10 that will allow traffic to merge into the far right lanes of the interstate before College Drive, instead of having to cut across multiple lanes after the two interstates merge.

“The idea that we’re going to have nearly a half mile exit ramp for college from I-12 and I-10 is going to make that intersection a lot smoother and eliminate some of the mainline traffic and congestion you see on i-10,” said Dr. Shawn Wilson, Secretary of DOTD.

Wilson said construction on the flyover should be completed by 2022. Work will mostly be done at night and in the median to minimize any construction traffic.

This is just the first phase of a much larger project that will take several more years to complete. That project will ultimately widen I-10 through the heart of Baton Rouge, allowing for more traffic to flow through town.

“The millions of dollars we’re going to spend on this improvement are going to be worth it,” Wilson said. “The difficulty of these times of construction will pay off in the end.”

It's worth the headache.

Everyone is going to hate the construction companies. As if they just design closures and stuff.

Just remember how fricked up traffic is in Baton Rouge. That's why they are doing all of this.

I made it a point to live somewhere that I can avoid traffic spillover from interstate backups.

Go North, my friends.

Take the money and put it towards a better entrance to the bridge. Stop treating the symptoms and start treating the problem. That area wouldn't be backed up, causing some of the issues getting to the far right lanes, in the first place if people could get to the bridge using more than one lane.

I guess the Bocage NIMBYS didn't have as much stroke as they thought they did.

Well, if the COVID lockdown lasts a few years longer the work won't cause that much of an issue and we won't really need it once it's done.

Serious question.
When will the Washington St. exit close? The new exit has been open.

Just a quick look shows the estimate was 30MM in 2019 and ballooned to a 52MM 2020 estimate.

65MM when done with changeorders?

Certainly.

I didn't read your entire article. Does it mention anything about a construction company doing the work?

Good thing government street, one of the main arteries used to get out of downtown without getting on the interstate has been successfully dieted just in time for this to start!

I've been wondering this for a while myself. The idea was there would not be both, and here we've been having to deal with both for a long while now
