I live off 287 and people typically drive like they are supposed to until the ice hits. During Winter I see trucks in ditches every time it freezes over.

I80 in Western Nebraska gives them a run.

I've yet to experience that one myself but I have no doubt that you're right.

I've gone that route probably 50 times while traveling between BTR and ABQ. used to love stopping at Clines Corner, NM.

And then I'd head north in New Mexico up the Raton pass and North up 1-25.

We take this route also and it is cool. We then take the La Veta pass and head west towards South Fork Colorado. Great drive. Just takes for ever going through each small town and slowing down to 35 mph.

I took I-10 from New Orleans to Cali once-- what a shite show.

Drove from New Orleans to Cali by way of Dallas 287,to I-40 to Cali is one of the least stressful drives I've ever had. I've completed that drive 3 times.

287 to I-20 through Dallas is the worst part of that drive.

I took the 287 to Amarillo, then headed towards Raton to I-25 North this summer. Hell, I do that every summer on the way to Colorado Springs. It's a great drive...

But damn, I've run into a hail storm in New Mexico between Clayton and Raton during my last three drives that way.

I drove down to NOLA for Jazzfest this spring and on the way to Raton I ran into a snow storm from south of Pueblo to the other side of Raton Pass. There wasn't much accumulation on the road but it was like being in hyperspace for 50 miles. Yuge flakes.
