Yep, I wouldn’t do it out of principle. Have a little more dignity than being an attention whore. My wife would probably ask me why I wasted money on nonsense.

Let me break down why your post is awful (and I feel for the man that needs to follow your advice).
1: Flowers die and are ridiculous purchases.
2: Social group location? A table full of women I barely know is so polarizing and awful.
3 So, she is so needy she needs to show off your purchase to a group of superficial women?
A woman that "needs" to "show-off" a gift, or thoughtful moment from her husband, is indoctrinated, by other women. Actually, that isn't a woman, that is a 30-50 year old woman, who never grew up.
Marriage is not a pony-show. It is gratitude and thankfulness, with some servitude thrown in (that should ruffle some feathers).
