Standardization - if one car is in the shop, or if a child or someone borrows one, etc.
There is a lot to be said for standarization. On the other hand, I'm in favor of having cars for different roles. A great vehicle for "getting work done" might not be the best for "Driving to New Jersey".
Those exactly were my thoughts on both counts.

I agree. One car and one truck/SUV.

People were confused how a Chinese couple managed to run a busy restaurant 21 hours a day without getting tired. Turns out the restaurant is run by two couples … both the men and women are identical twins!
Locals had nicknamed the eatery the "robot couple restaurant" as they couldn't understand how the same couple seemed to be on duty from 6am through to 3am. However, a journalist from Today Morning Post interviewed the restaurant owner and found out the truth. It turned out that the twin brothers, 32, married a set of twin sisters from the same township three years ago and moved to Yiwu to run the restaurant together. "Many diners thought we worked too hard and are like robots, but they don't know that we are actually four people," said Mao Zhanghua, 32, the elder brother. (Source)

That ought to be a reality show - "Robot Diner" - at least a season or two - has to be better than a lot of the $hit that passes for television these days.

Every time I've seen it was because both were in some type of sales position and their employers paid for their car. Most recent example was a financial adviser (husband) and a pharma rep (wife), different companies but each were given a loaded out black ford fusion.

Walk into a dealership, test drive a vehicle. Tell the salesman, "if you can meet this price, I'll take two."
one could do said negotiation tactic with any other 2nd vehicle on lot.

What if they both drive a Tahoe?
There are twins and then there are IDENTICAL twins, meaning they look exactly the same.
and the title says..........

What are some reasons for doing this?
We have identical smart phones, means we only have to learn one system, can quickly pick up a phone and use it.
Cars, hum, guess it makes it easy to find at Christmas time, you know which car you are looking for.

My wife and I have matching 2014 Range Rovers. We are almost never stranded with car trouble at the same time.

I drive my wife's hand me down to commute to work and it happens to be a camry that we replaced with one in 2012. She drives 3 miles to work and I drive 45 miles. It doesn't make financial sense to buy a nicer vehicle for me to destroy on the highway.
I also have a Z71 with 190k miles on it that I use on the weekends for errands and to haul the boat around.

My household only has one car note at a time and we are loyal to our brand, Audi. I drive an A4 and she drives an A6 (even though I'm paying for it). When I'm done paying for the A6, I'm gonna drive it and get another her another A6. We both love it and the A7 is a little too much.

We both like Jeeps?
I have a 2014 Jeep Sahara Unlimited
He has a 2013 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited
(different colors though)
He got his first and I really liked it so when I got a new car, I got one as well.
Didn't realize this was anything to give a second thought to by others.

Driving the same cars?? Dumb...If nothing else, a couple only likes one car?? How freaking boring! Even sports cars- I wouldn't even have two identical Ferrari's- there is something different about every model! I don't know any couple who have done this, probably because they would bore me to tears...
