Maybe she has some type of health condition that causes her to gain weight or has to take a certain type of medicine that keeps weight on her?

She probably lost her weight using unhealthy habits and has PTSD from it. Her brain won't allow her to go through it again even if she does it with proper guidance.

If she's anything like me it's thousands of empty calories from booze and lack of motivation due to marriage
