You're right, military members are getting a stipend, I'm not complaining about being displaced, it's being covered

But there are military members who will struggle to recover. If anyone wants to help specifically military members, this might be a good place to start. There might be other better options, I've researched zero on the topic, I just know AFAS is already integrated and prepped to help assess needs.

Will be interesting to see how everyone comes together to support, as you mentioned renters insurance. We had to set our coverage amount, in doing that I was considering theft and my primary electronics and valuables, I wouldnt anticipate a total loss. I am sure many people's policies are under valued.

Central Louisiana when it comes to hurricane preparedness, that doesn't count.

He was staying behind when I left. I blame him.

If you are from LA you may want to grab birth certificate copies, marriage certificate copies, etc from the applicable places here if that is possible (and you were born/married etc here)

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth I was an E-3 at Tyndall when we were hit with “Kate”. Luckily I was just going on leave so I had a bunch of my stuff with me. Most that lived in the dorms didn’t and lost a lot of their belongings.

I urge any of you to donate whatever you can. Alot of these folks are just starting out in life and have little, so I’m sure all will be appreciated

I just donated. Not much. The cost of eating out for lunch a few days.

Peanut butter and jelly for me this week.

The OP (who sounds like a dependapotamus) didn't directly ask for a handout.
She speculated on a bleak situation for those at Tyndall affected by the hurricane and then solicited donations for a particular charity.
She failed to mention that there is already financial aid and other contingencies for service members that have been displaced even though it appears she was aware.

Well, I'm sure the majority of the posters here are civilians and don't know.
Thanks to TennesseeFan25 for dropping in and providing a bit of good info or else many who read the OP would think that the DOD has left some of its own without support.
If the senior leadership at Tyndall didn't "strongly urge" all unit members to carry some type of insurance on their personal possessions, then the command failed to ensure their well being!

I disagree

BTW, where does a good portion of that DOD support come from?

AFAS

Seriously? You think that financial and other support from the Department of Defense comes from the Air Force Aid Society?

Do you think that AFAS is paying the per diem and travel claims of service members displaced by Hurricane Michael?

Just what is it that you do in the USAF?

Has anyone insinuated that?

The OP was asking for financial support in the form of donations to AFAS.
The DOD provides service members displaced by the storm with increased financial support.
You claimed that "a good portion of that DOD support" comes from AFAS.

Please expound.

The AFAS is a private non-profit organization, designated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization by the IRS.
It is not affiliated with the Department of Defense.

The OP described some bad circumstances and solicited donations.
Nowhere in her initial post did she reveal that affected service members are already receiving support through official means even though she knew it was occurring.

I may be an a-hole, but I'm definitely not stupid.
Thanks for your input though.

I see bullshite and I call it out.

Right now, I'm waiting for a SMSgt to explain to me how the charity promoted by the OP supports the Dept of Defense.
