This is a complicated setup with a tropical wave (AEW) moving westward as a broad area of low pressure develops (CAG). Earlier model runs seemed to favor developing the AEW, but now models seem to be focusing on one of the vorts that spin up in the CAG.

That's how you dumb it down for us.

As long as it's not a pretty buzz saw spinny rain

Would that latter scenario favor a more easterly track?

tropical wave (AEW)
broad area of low pressure develops (CAG).
vorts - areas of spin that can grow upscale into tropical storms

Most likely, given climo. It's hard to get storms to move back west in the Gulf this time of year.

To be slightly more specific, the terms also have geographic components:

AEW - African Easterly Wave - wave of energy coming from the east (towards Africa)

CAG - Central American Gyre - slowly rotating area of low pressure that forms over Central America

How did Helene create upwelling? Didn't it blast through the Gulf? I thought that means upwelling doesn't happen the faster a hurricane moves through the Gulf. That's good news if true.

That’s karma for making your friends go to a wedding on a Saturday during football season.

And even though it’s a bye week for LSU, your anniversary will forever be during peak football season

987 millibars just above the 980 generally accepted as the range for a Cat 1 Hurricane. If it stays on this course, hopefully it will not develop into more than Tropical Storm.

We will have tvs on during reception
Not worried about anniversary, both huge LSU fans so football will override fancy dinners

I’m mostly hoping it turns out to be nothing because after seeing the flooding & devastation from Helene those people need all the help they can get, it would be terrible if resources had to be spread out to help another area
