Frances and Ivan produced 213 toddies between them, over 3 days each, but only 2 were rated F-3. None higher.
Fight me. Now.

Not to go off on a tangent, but what’s your affiliation with the coffee guy? You’ve been posting about him and the company quite a bit.

That’s a massive tornado anywhere
That's the only kind of shite I'm really worried about the few times I have stayed during a hurricane.
Just 6 days ago a memorial for the victims of the Hurricane Hilda tornado in north Larose, LA was held on the 60th anniversary.
quote:
22 deaths – This devastating, violent tornado paralleled LA 1 as it leveled a 1-mile-long (1.6 km) swath of homes. Only "shells" of brick homes remained in a few locations. Observers reported debris in Coteau, 16 mi (26 km) to the west of Larose. 165 people were injured and losses totaled $21/2 million. This was the deadliest hurricane-spawned tornado on record since 1900 and one of only two such tornadoes on record to have attained F4 intensity.

Tying a dog to a pole on the interstate is so insane that I wonder if he got out of a home with a leash and caught himself up on the pole. Like who the hell would actually do that?

WTF?
Hurricane Hazel 1954 picked her way keeping her core more or less over water using the windward passage to break out of the Caribbean.
Hurricane Thomas 2010 lesser storm managed to keep her core over water.
Betsy 1965. After two loops, the second one initiated by a blocking ridge turning her back westward she seemingly managed to keep her eye just off the peninsula and steamed below Miami through the Florida Straights.
Sometimes they seem show an affinity for staying over water.
No big deal. Just interesting.
Praying for Florida.

The Larose F4 was one of only 2 F4s ever spawned by hurricanes. The other was in Galveston from Hurricane Carla in 1961.
2 F4s from hurricanes in 3 years, then none since then is kinda surreal.

quote:I know it doesn't matter for a pool your size but one of the things I remember about Charley is our apartment maintenance crew pumping out some of the pool water. The morning after it hit that pool was filled with debris and had to be pumped completely out and cleaned after we got power back.
Locked down here. Going to be our first major one. We were on the outskirts of Ian here and it was crazy but I know this is going to be more terrifying.
Get a Shower, good mean, some cocktails and just hang on. Been raining all day and getting some small wind but nothin crazy. Gonna try and post some tonight if I can. Hope all you other baws in the area are good tonight.
The shower and warm meal right before is the way to go. We had 4 hours between the first severe band (as it was coming ashore in Punt Gorda) and when the power went out as it approached the tourist corridor south of Orlando. We even had enough time to get the ball rolling on having our first kid.
As for meals, you're going to want to keep your refrigerator closed for as long as possible. Go get some ice and put a couple days worth of food in a cooler. We grilled food for the first day but then had to empty our fridge into the trash.

How long did it take you to put up the metal covers...looks good...see the neighbors across..didn't board up....anybody else board up around you...with the wind and shite that goes flying, good call on that

That is almost a must in Florida. It helps keep the pool clean and mosquitos out.

Been buying coffee from him over 4 years. But the fun part has been following his twitter. And he genuinely cares about helping people. If I didn’t know that I would not post him but have vetted him so to speak over those years. Since I’m retired military and he’s an ex SFO, I enjoy his takes. At same time I’ve watched him do relief for a ton of disasters. And helps vets. He got a monument built for one who died. He buys equipment for vets missing limbs to help load them into jump planes to experience that thrill again. He brings in food trucks for veteran retired homes.
Just an all around good guy who helps people in need. In July he bought a used SUV for a vet in Dallas and drove it to him. Right now he has people in hotels in NC/SC who lost homes expenses and food all paid for a month. He has a lot of contacts around the country from his military days as well.
If my posts help one person in need then it will have been worth it.
