The tornados that were spawned during Laura was the biggest problem imo. There would be multiple houses destroyed, then you’d see a couple house for the most part barely damaged. I think it was a record for the most tornadoes during a hurricane.
Laura doesn't rank high at all for confirmed tornadoes. Tornadoes within the bands of Laura weren't a very big problem. What produced damage were prolific mesovortices within the eye wall which I believe were greatly exacerbated due to the friction of land interaction. The bank building was damaged by these mesovortices, and Mark Sudduth's remote video caught them sucking windows out of the building.
Ida was just as impressive/devastating with the mesovortices associated with it. Given it's near stall as it made its turn to the NE, which put Houma in the eye wall for hours, it just printed mesovorts over the same areas. Laura produced 16 confirmed tornadoes and Ida 29.

We had those micro vortexes during Sally in Fort Morgan. In the inner eye wall. Houses from the beach to the Bay were completely destroyed in a straight line while houses next to them had no considerable damage outside but the NE winds blew tons of water into the eves and inside the homes.

Laura, Sally, Delta, Zeta was a miserable year. I was in between Gulf Shores and South Louisiana for months. We were basically swapping generators and supplies back and forth.

We must not live far from each other....

We went 23 days without power. I live just north of the Cal/Cam line. Filling gas and changing oil in 2 gens became a way of life. We had power restored for less than 2 weeks before losing it again for Delta. Despite 120k in damage, we were very fortunate, as half the homes in our immediate vicinity were complete losses and had to be leveled. Only half of those families have returned.

Good think Lake Chuck has semi-competent leadership. Would suck to have SWB or Latoya at the helm during that time.

There was a community organizer who tried to make it racial, but he was largely silenced. The issues with NLC are the typical issues with lower SES (multiple generations passing down property without successions, primarily, so there was no owner to file claims) and not some institutional thing from the white leadership in government. The biggest issue was the lack of federal support, but the LC area learned that lesson already after Rita when we were largely ignored.

Lake Charles was so luck she didn't come in a hair more West. I know it was bad, but surge would have submerged the city.
