I asked my pilot grandad this the other day and he said he guessed that it would be to limit hail damage

Said that that is the commercial airlines biggest maintenance expense is hail/gravel/dirt/other debris destroying the fins in the engine

Could be wrong but made sense to me

Seems like hail would damage a prop same as a turbine.

Still sitting on the 11pm NHC track nicely so far

I'm still fairly nervous about it shifting even another 30 mi west and staying just offshore the whole length of coastline. The shift wouldn't be enough to save any particular place or another but would give her a hell of a lot of warm water to keep under her for another 24-36 hours, which then becomes a east coast, west coast, AND panhandle nightmare.

I'm a single dude that evacuated along with all my important stuff, I'm not worried about my house as much as the potential size and intensity really putting a hurting on my friends, neighbors, and the state of FL in general.

TL;DR - I'm praying for the best possible outcome out of a bunch of really really shitty options

Yeah. There is no good outcome but there are degrees of more shitty outcomes.

I said the same and he said that the props move at a much, much lower rpm (like ~900 vs 15,000) than the jet fins and the props are much thicker and tougher so that mitigates the damage they take

That water is less than 100 feet deep, not a good fuel source. But, you never know.

What time we expect Jeff to get fired up?

Unfortunately, I'm working emergency management in SC tonight (not sure why we are still activated).

But was hoping to be enjoying the live stream..

100 ft deep warm water > periodic land interaction > no water

You ever heard of something called the "brown ocean effect?" It doesn't take much water present for her to feed off of it and at least slow the downgrading process

Irma tried like hell to strengthen even while on the Cuban coast. She's tenacious.

There was a stoner youtubing from KW a few hours ago. He said all the trees are down and to expect the place to be leveled.

If that's the case, there's no good news down there.
