I'm really hoping that's a malfunctioning gauge, and not a 29 foot rise in 3 hours.

Paul Murphy ? Verified account @PMurphyWWL Following Following @PMurphyWWL More The Louisiana Cajun Navy was just ordered to stand down and leave New Bern, NC, where members were involved in rescue missions for victims trapped in their homes when Hurricane Florence hit early this morning. Their current status is North Carolina is unclear. #florence

Even if their intentions are good t's not really that big of a stretch to think that they can get in the way of coast guard rescue missions.

But once conditions are better, I would think an all hands on deck approach would be appreciated.

I agree, but if they showed up with like a bunch of renegade cowboys with their air boats and whatnot thinking there were going to take over the situation, I could see local authorities saying, "Who are you again?"
Take a seat over there and we'll call you when we figure things out

I completely agree. You can't risk the well-being of the volunteer rescuers while the storm is still ongoing at this point.

Kick out the guys that actually have experience doing water rescues... makes sense.

Protocols... you mean lots of red tape bullshite that keeps things from actually getting done? All those people should sit tight on top of their roofs and wait for FEMA to show up.

I don't understand why people expect to get helped when they are told a week in advance to get out, the weather is gonna be bad, mandatory evacuation, and there will be no help. That's their fault. They dug their own graves. fricking deal with it. You're flooded in? Well...start swimming jackass.
It's just like the protesters who scream "frick the police", and then immediately go crying to the police when something happens

I'm pretty sure people were getting rescued long before the "Cajun Navy" was a thing.
