Anyone here from Houma who remembers hurricane Betsy? I know it was almost 60 years ago now so probably not many. Just curious. I’m from Houma and currently in Houston (terrible mistake btw) and have heard some people saying this could be the next Betsy for Houma. Figuring that can’t be good but would like some first hand stories if possible. TIA

If it’s the next Betsy for NOLA, I’m about to be able to add “water views” to my property listing.

I remember Betsy. It was really bad. Lots of trees down. Cane too as I recall. Hilda was another bad one. This makes me old so I deserve the usual boomer downvotes.

We lived in Houma. I was young then but I remember my parents stacking furniture in front of sliding glass doors and pushing against trying to keep them from blowing in. The eye wall was really creepy. We were without power a really long time.

My dad is 91 and has talks about Betsy every time a bad storm forms. He said the scariest thing was the sound. Bbq pits and mailboxes / debris flying sideways and slamming into the house. The eye passed directly over our home in Luling. He walked outside during the eye and the sun was shining bright. Winds were way lower than this storm.

Bobby Hebert was talking about Betsy when this first started. He was 5 but he remembers it well. Scary.
