I can say all sorts of things too. It doesn't make them true. Did she point out disruptions caused by any said shirts?

Yeah, they had a complaint.

Pretty sure that the complaint was her violating policy, not causing a disruption. You're going by what you read in the article, correct?

Buckeye high school.

Hmmm, good thing this wasn't at buckeye hs in Louisiana.
Those baws don't like black folks in that part of the world.

A school in our district had a fight break out over a kid wearing one. That's disruptive to the educational process.

Ok, I agree with that as a disruption. Your SD did the right thing. However if no fight occurred do you think of it as a disruption?

A kid got sent home one time for wearing an American flag shirt. (It wasn't Owlie). It's good to see consistency at least.

If a student was made that uncomfortable about it, to the point that it was disruptive, then yes. And I'd feel the same way if it was an African-American student who was forced to sit in the class with a kid who was wearing a KKK/White Power shirt.

There's really no need for it in a classroom unless you're just trying to whore for attention.

Another reason for schools to have "uniforms". Khaki or Navy pants and a polo in a school color or white....problem solved.

What's your opinion on "safe spaces"?

This is dumb.

I worked in public schools in the mid to late 90s and kids were routinely asked to change shirts that had marijuana plants, rappers, etc. There was no outrage. They usually just turned them inside out.

That kids need to learn how to deal with adversity and not "escape" to a "safe place"?

Nice try.

Oddly enough I agree with you. Does that mean stop complaining when they see something they are offended by?

People wear confederate flags all over the country. I have personally seen them on the west coast and upstate New York.

You're trying to have 2 different debates.

I love how principled people are. The are all for freedom of expression as long as the thought being expressed are similar to theirs.

Very conservative guy last night was upset that the school sent the permission slip for the pledge. Thinks that kids should be forced to say the pledge, whether they want to or not. Well, because you have to love freedom, no you really have to.

If someone ever has the fortitude to label the BLM movement as they truly are, then I would agree with making the shirt off limits at school. However, until that happens, people should have the right to show support to it just as they should to the NRA, their religion or other ideals they hold dear.

Not exactly sure how a t shirt disrupts a learning process.

I think picture day had something to do with it. Still don't support it, let her wear what she wants.
