Tops is good for what it is. Fast food BBQ.

Cheeseburgers and pulled pork sandwiches are good if you need a quick meal.

Fair enough

Remember when Corky’s bbq was a thing? It may still be… I’m not sure- but I always liked their bbq. Probably a very unpopular opinion.

Neely’s Interstate BBQ is decent too.

Graceland is in the heart of the hood. Bars on all the windows of ‘businesses’ and gang related crime abounds.

It’s a total trash area and not worth seeing something you can watch a documentary about from the safety of literally anywhere else.

This is really bad advice.

Then don’t take it. You do you boo.

But I will not recommend anyone to visit that area.

In fact the airport area is just a stones throw away from being a good place to get killed.

But knock yourself out dude- have a ball.

Haven't been in few years.
But, seemed like a smaller bourbon street.
With way more cops per capita.
They seemed to have it pretty well patrolled.

i don't think anyone is arguing the neighborhood is good, but taking a tour of Graceland has very little to do with the neighborhood. its plenty secure. I'm letting the OP know to ignore your advice, as its clear you've never taken the tour, otherwise you'd know about the security around parking and shuttles.

And "you can see it on a documentary"? What a terrible take. I mean hell i could watch a documentary on anything, it won't be the same as experiencing it firsthand.

Uh, Eliza Fletcher wasn't abducted anywhere near downtown...she was abducted ~a mile from our home in Central Gardens. This is like saying avoid downtown BR because someone got shot on Siegan....

It was right by U of M in an area where that does NOT happen which was why it was such a wild story. Prayers for her and her family.

Sure, since the neighborhoods surrounding airports are always the pinnacle of luxury huh?

Make sure they visit the site where MLK was killed and the museum there. Ds living near D.C. should appreciate that.

Jesus! Your a pussy
Beale street is fine and is nothing like Bourbon street as far as hustlers and the drug dealing. Its there but not even close to nola. I was there a couple years ago watching the hornets get beat by the Grizzlies! Brought my son and wife to beake street it just happend to be New Years Eve as well.

I'd be willing to bet they continue to vote (D) even after their demise.

Still a thing. We take our kids because one loves ribs and the other loves fried catfish, Corky’s has a rib/catfish combo they split.

Where in my post did I say she was abducted from downtown?

No where.

And your response:

Validates what I said. You can run there safely - but a woman cannot.

I’m glad you enjoy living where you do.

I personally think Memphis is a shithole from midtown to downtown by the river front.

Even Cordova and germantown are getting bad.

I worked for nearly a decade at the wing on Eastmoreland and Union and can attest to “Memphis is a shithole” and it’s generally speaking- not safe.

But again- it’s my opinion. And you have yours. They’re different. Neither is right or wrong. Just different.

The couple of times I’ve been to Beale Street I thought it was a little boring (and short) but it felt MUCH safer than Bourbon. The city had access points with bouncer types checking people in.

It’s like the rest of the places.. the original one is the best. The satellite ones like in olive branch, etc are not all that.

It’s been a while ago.. but we ate at Corky’s on Poplar after the Fastest Street Car Shootout in Millington one year and I thought it was as good as anything in Memphis at that time. But I was hungry enough to say “pass the ketchup” if anyone had a Milkbone.

The saddest decline is the Rendezvous. It is an absolute shell of what it was in the 80’s and 90’s.

If they have no street sense I'd suggest a day visit. Hit Gus's fried chicken around 11, the one by the river, OG location. Take a hike down Beale and they'll be disappointed in short order. Ride over to the Pyramid, then back to the Peabody to get ready for dinner at the Rendevouz. Straight back to the hotel, then haul arse in the morning.
