here is what I taught my son. And BTW, he was raised right, disciplined, respectful, Christian home. He has been a joy, not ever in trouble, college grad. He is a bright, respectable young man with a great future.
Son, it is your body. I am not telling you to NOT get a tattoo. I am asking you that if you do, get it where it is only seen when YOU want it seen. Keep it tasteful and no vulgarity in word or picture. With that he has some serious ink on him, it is truly art, amazing work, and there is a story behind all of it.
He works for an up and coming company in San Diego, sales manager. HE also does consultant work for NIKE. He has his Schmitt in 1 bag. It has No bearing on our relationship. Period.
My daughter is 15, she knows the rules, but we will have further talks until such time as she is on her own.

When my younger daughter announced that she was thinking of getting a tattoo I just said, "Great! Let's go together and I'll get the same tattoo as you get in the same place on my body!"

She didn't get a tattoo and she never brought it up again.....

If you were a good parent they wouldn't want one.

My wife (no pics bitches) and I both have our back's covered. My 17 year old son asked last week for a tattoo. He's a senoir and makes great grades and is signed up for the Air Force. Even with us having tattoos and him being a great kid, I told him no and wait until he's 18 and out of my house!

This is why I don't want to have kids.

so basically you should tell people how they should spend their own money.

So often we see people who are actually spending my money in some form of welfare or government subsidization who are extremely tatted from head to foot. There are vast levels of irresponsibility with these people. Yet somehow what little resources they have are used for the senseless and often crude desecration of their body.

What if he or she came home with one before even getting your opinion?
Not sure how I'd handle it(my 2 boys are 5 years old now, long ways to go)but it wouldn't go over well.

If they came to me and asked about it, it's less of an age thing, and more of a deal where I'd need to feel they're smart/mature enough to understand what they're doing, where they're getting it, and all of that good stuff.

It wouldn't be a blanket "no" from me, but it would have to go through a process before I let it happen.

I told my kids as long as I am footing the bills they will not get tattoos or they will immediately become self reliant.

Well...

She's 13, has special needs, wheel-chair bound, and can't talk; so if she told me she wanted one...I'd make it happen.
