I do think it’s relative to rehash it. Interest rates have risen yet house prices haven’t dropped
America, and the backbone middle class, is completely fricked going forward.housing is the #1 separator for the American dream and how wealth was built here for the middle class.
I don’t know why some posters like Roger think admitting that basic fact makes them less of a person in their youth
Meh. We've been having this same convo for like 5 years or more now. People like roger are set in their ways. Don't let him get you down. He literally lives off the government lmao.

Conservatism is the correct approach.
What exactly do you mean here? I am sorry, but I have never heard of the Conservative School of Economics and almost all of our political "conservatives" believe in Keynesian economics so there is no real difference between them and the others. Those "conservatives" that believe in the Austrian school of thought (which I would consider "conservstive economic ideas") are quickly laughed at by the GOP voting block and have no real chance of doing anything.

So gaucho (the most obvious troll here) says something silly and you agree vehemently with him.

About $25-$30K where they were about $8-$10k in 1996.

HVAC work is a bit different
You don't think you could watch YT video and learn how to mount a sink and install the faucet? Or watch one and learn to wire a 3-way light switch? Remove and reset a toilet with a new wax ring?
You're changing the argument again to bolster your point.
Big difference between a couple weekends of paint or changing sink faucets and buying a cheap home in need of major renovations. You're not getting a big discount on an old home because the sink needs swapping. The only "cheap" homes need major work by and large.
And no, I don't believe mold remediation, caved in floors or roofing issues are fixable via YT University.

I’m older. House, truck and everything paid for. But I walked out of Wal Mart last night with three bags of groceries that cost over $60 and thought to myself, with the cost of a new house these days, and new vehicles easily averaging over $50,000, how are your kids, grandkids, nephews, etc., , ever going to get ahead?
The most powerful tool in a socialist's toolbox is creating fear that individuals cannot achieve success on their own.

sounds like delayed gratification to me, my daughter takes at least one big trip at least every other year, and several "smaller" trips throughout the year, her goal is to go to all 7 continents, she's made it to 6 so far, she saves, budgets, plans meticulously
Did you pay for her college? Put a down payment on her house or buy her a car or put a down payment on that?
How much did she buy her house for? What company does she work for? Is it a friend's company or YOUR company?

Correct and believing their fate is tied to their peers.
Lack of confidence and too much faith in systems.

It's adorable how boomers take no responsibility in the perceived lack of work ethic in the generation of children THEY raised.

Sorry chief, both of my daughters did well for themselves and are both homeowners.
Sorcery!

I do really well at my job, but I don't think salaries are keeping up with inflation
They have been stagnant or worse since 1980. The only increase took place between 2015 and 2020 and has dropped to the point that wages are up less than 1% since 1980 while inflation has averaged about 3% in that same period. Meanwhile worker productivity has increased dramatically, corporate profits have increased even more dramatically and corporate taxes have decreased more than either. In other words workers are producing more, making their companies more money, earning the same and their employer is paying less in taxes. It ain't a mystery...what is a mystery is why so many people want to blame their children, the children they raised, when it is not their children's doing...it is their doing and more to the point their employers doing.

The more ironic part is that boomers were basically the advent of what he's complaining about.
It's "video game" mentality but it started in the 60s
The median boomer has like a year or two worth of spending money saved up to retire after 40 years in the workforce. They'll live off tax payers until they die.

Started in the 70s when the rust belt started dying.
The "big inflation" period was from 1965-1972, the time the USA was both fighting a war abroad, and pushing social welfare on a population which doomed many forever.

So am I. My wife and I each work two jobs each and live in a small starter home a 3/2 1400 sq ft. No Kids. We haven't taken a trip in 2 years and both drive used vehicles.
It's still hard to get as far ahead as the folks before us. Maybe not you specifically, but your generation loves to bitch about how lazy and entitled the next generation is but throw your hands up and pass the buck when asked the tough questions about your culpability in instilling those values in your kids.
