Right? Would have been a different headline.

Did you watch the same video I just saw where the guy kept approaching the moose while it was displaying aggressive behavior?

I agree. He displayed aggressive behavior towards the moose.

This

If you want to avoid an encounter with a wild animal do not continue to approach it after you see it

Wouldn't have taken much to finish it right there. I get that his adrenaline may have been pumping but I doubt he went back based on his stupid decision to engage the moose.

Meh, there needs to be a moose cull anyways. Guy did the moose population a favor.

Some of these posters are making it seem like the guy was doing that in hopes the moose would attack him just so he could shoot it

I don't think that at all

but he gave the moose very little respect

like I said, he would not have acted the way he did if it had been a bear

Totally justified IMO. Go back and look at 0:47. As the moose is walking away, he turns around and whispers a racial slur to the guy. You have to have pretty good headphones to hear it though.

exactly!. and how do you all know that the guy didnt go back and finish the moose off, gut it and clean it?

It's the OT, people will assume the worst in human nature.

The guy could have done things differently but moose are more dangerous than bears. Not sure what I would have done, but I'm not gonna blame this guy.

Moose meat is the best venison by far. Hope he took care of it.

You'll need a sled to carry off hundreds of lbs of moose meat.

Call your local wildlife officers, let them come investigate and they'll either have some charity come pick it up or allow you to take the meat. That's how it works.

Wildlife killings are investigated like many violent crimes

this guy surely didn't act like it, because I doubt he would move towards a bear right after it had mock charged him

99.9% of the time a moose will mosey on along. Maybe he was unfamiliar with them, but moose are lazy and like to take the same trails people do. He may not have been in a place where it's advisable to go back, or he may have been on a designated snowmachine trail.

Wildlife and people use the same paths and are gonna cross. He may not have made all the right choices, I don't know but I can't blame him for popping the thing when it turned for round 3.

By far. Bears go out of their way to avoid being detected, moose purposely try to piss you off.

He probably could have had a little more patience. I can't fault him for shooting the moose after it attacked... The video description said he had his son with him.

I think the issue is whether or not it could have been avoided. At first, he's trying to scare the moose off. That trail doesn't appear to be very big, and I have no idea if that rig would get stuck if he tried to go around in heavy snow. However, IMHO, it sure seems like he should have have backed off after the first charge. Instead, he inched closer.

WTF does it matter if this guy had a 'life threatening heart condition'? I assume that intended to makes us feel like he really had no other option....if that was a concern, stay at home, bud.

I'd say yes, but most wildlife encounters can be avoided. I can't blame him for his actions though.

Warning shots may have been a better option, but the moose was turning, and he may have panicked.

I don't think the heart condition is necessarily relevant either, but I think the comment about him staying home is BS. Being afraid of dying is not a good reason to stop living.

Maybe his son was young. I'd assume his son is grown if he is 51. Then again, I was 9 when my dad was that age.

Like I said, it sure seems like this situation could have been avoided, but I'm not going to thrown stones if I don't really know the whole story.

The best option and what should have happened from the beginning is the snowmobile guy should have backed off.

You give the animal space. All the guy did was challenge the animal to a fight.

Well then, shouldn't have brought a hoof to a gun fight.
